I've been hesitant to leave this review, because I love the message and purpose of Gatherings. Eventually I decided that as a chef, I would want to know. So here it goes...
We were a group of 3. Our order was a quiche, turkey melt, and bison tacos.
The quiche and turkey melt were insanely good. My kid is a picky eater, but she devoured the sandwich and my wife loved her quiche. The tacos on the other hand were inedible.
They were greasy, stringy, and the flavor was incredibly foul. I've had bison plenty of times. Cooked with it and served it in restaurants I've worked in in the past, and these tacos are by far the worst I've ever had.
Maybe it was the tarragon they chopped up for the topping (I have a feeling they meant to use cilantro). I couldn't put my finger on it. Just completely unpalatable. I'm planning on going back to support an important cultural landmark in the cities, but I'll never order those tacos again.
Also, the museum closed 2hrs early. The time posted on the doors and online...
Read moreI can't recommend Gatherings Cafe strongly enough. When I first called to check on their menu, I was assisted by a very nice employee that not only answered all my questions but also informed us that there was a gift shop there and a Native American farmers market down the clock. Upon arriving, the wonderful employees helped us out and even brought our food to my wife as I shopped around. The food was just as amazing as the employees were. We couldn't decide between the walleye tacos or bison melt so we ordered both and were so happy we did. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! The tacos and bison melt were fresh and tasty and the salad was a perfect compliment to both. The cultural and culinary experience that Gatherings Cafe and all the wonderful people at the Minneapolis American Indian Center and the Four Sisters Farmers Market provided my family will forever be a highlight of our time in...
Read moreDearest Lucy (me) suggested Gatherings Cafe to the brunch bunch. Our newest provisional member Jackie arrived initially with Paul (not together, mind you). After some small chit chat, Danielle arrived and we got down to business (Lucy was running late). The atmosphere was special--a bare bones cafe in the heart of the Native American community center with the smell of freshly washed dishes. While they were tragically out of sweet potatoes, we all had food that we were absolutely floored by. Paul's only complaint was the kick on his breakfast burrito which left him a sweaty mess. The waiter who took our order quickly checked on Paul to make sure he was feeling well. Gatherings: come for the food, stay for the attractive...
