I was drawn to the Deg Deg grille last year while riding my bike down the Greenway. The pungent aroma of seasoned, grilled meat would sink down into the bike path and every time I rode past the location I got very, very hungry. So my mission was to find out where it was coming from. Here was a marvelous hole-in-the-wall throbbing with culture and affordable, quick, and tasty North African fare. Several times I stopped by to load up my bike basket with this incredible food to take home for a satisfying meal for me and my partner. Later in the year, things started to change. They didnāt have what I ordered. The service was not particularly pleasant and I had to get what I could. Recently I stopped back to the Deg Deg hoping to reward my partner with a scrumptious meal after a long day. The place was dead. The grille wasnāt alive and there was no one in the kitchen area. I stood at the counter looking blankly at the overhead picture menu. The employee was sitting at one of the tables and asked me if he could help me. I asked if he had #1 and #4 - these are savory beef and chicken dishes that we simply could not stop eating when I ordered them before. He said they were changing the menu to serve only the āAmericanā menu items - gyros, hot dogs, fried stuff, etc. Essentially, food I can get anywhere. My heart sank. I left without ordering anything. Deg Deg Grille began as a promising North African gem, but has apparently fallen victim to some sort of mismanagement and/or apathy. I am afraid that if it doesnāt soon return to serving the food that made it special, it will flicker out and become another shooting star restaurant. Somebody please...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had the steak California Burrito it was by far the worst āsteakā meat I have ever had in my life. For some reason I thought they would use the same skirt steak Somali restaurants usually use with bariis (rice) but it was not that. The meat was thin as paper and the closest thing I could use to describe the flavor is sweat, like if a cow was sweaty and stinky that would be the taste. I donāt expect a 5 star steak at fast food prices but I have had cheap steak meat that was decent from many other restaurants, this was extremely poor quality meet. Their fries are also horrible with way too much seasoning & even the dipping sauce was bad.
The āburritoā had nothing a normal burrito would, it was full of nasty sweaty meat and their dry over seasoned fries along with a bunch of red onion for some reason.
I wish I could say anything good about the food here but itās pure trash. Actually I take that back, the actual tortilla was good minus everything inside it. My advice to you is I would rather go hungry than eat this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreALL THE REVIEWS ARE FAKE AND BOTTER! DO NOT TRUST ANY OF THE REVIEWS!!! I do not recommend this place for ANYONE, if you are homeless and it is a last resort then suit yourself. This restaurant is in the corner of a mall and extremely tiny, to make matters worse there food is EXTREMELY OILY and I mean extremely itās almost as if theyāre trying to make me puke oil honestly.. I even called them ahead of time to get my order to not be as oily and crispy fries and the DUDE DIDNT EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH, like how do you have a job in america and donāt speak English..? When I got my food it was the most soggiest greasiest fries that were most definitely cooked hours before and to make things worse the quesadilla had little to no meat like⦠this is the worst restaurant EVER, honestly would consider shutting down this atrocious establishment. I seriously will never understand how theyāre quesadillas are 15$ or their fries being 7$, it just does not make any sense. Iād rather eat McDonaldās then this...
