I had been getting tea at Empire coffee for a few weeks while I worked at a client site nearby. I had been in 3 times where I asked for my tea with almond milk, no water, and had no issues with the order.
One day, I walked in and the barista took my order and per the usual I said, "tea, steamed almond milk, no water." they responded with, "so you want a london fog?" I said, "does it have water?" "yes." "then no. I want steamed almond milk. I don't want any water with my tea." The barista looked perplexed, but didn't ask any more questions.
I watched them make my drink and when they added water I called out, "I said I didn't want any water." They said, "That's what a london fog is." "Right, but I didn't want that. I specifically said no water." So they remade the drink. At this point a different worker had walked up to help/observe the situation and assisted the barista in remaking my drink. It wasn't a big deal so I left when my drink was done.
A few days later I come in and the coworker that had observed/helped was the one at the counter. I said my usual, "tea, steamed almond milk, no water." And that barista decided to berate me for a few minutes because I happened to order a drink that wasn't normal for them. She went on for about 2 minutes saying I needed to be more clear about what type of drink I wanted. And explained all of the ways it could be misinterpreted.
A few things, 1. I don't mind explaining what I want in my drink. However, I'm not sure how to more clearly state " no water" than saying "no water". 2. As a customer service representative, you probably shouldn't berate your customers for a mistake that was made on your part, not the customers. 3. Talk about public shaming. Instead of saying, "sorry for the mix up yesterday," I was talked down to for very clearly stating my order. There was quite a line of people behind me and the barista chose to hold up other's orders and loudly proclaim that my order is a nuisance AND I don't know what I'm doing.
The first barista that I ever had there was someone who not only didn't have an issue not adding water to my drink, but when they realized they had accidentally made my drink with regular milk instead of almond milk, they returned the drink and made me a new one. And that was without me even knowing it was made incorrectly.
It seems like there's a large difference between who's being trained to do a good job and who's got some attitude they need to...
Read moreMy children have been asking to return to Honour for some time now. I used to visit weekly a couple of years ago, but it had been a while since our last visit. Today, we decided to stop in, and I purchased over $100 worth of juice. When I noticed the option to pay with Cash App, I inquired with the employees behind the counter, hoping to use my Cash App balance and pay the remaining amount with my debit card. Unfortunately, they weren't sure how the process worked.
As a customer, I politely suggested that since Cash App is offered as a payment option, it would be beneficial for the staff to receive training on how to assist customers who wish to use it. To my surprise, one of the employees, Forest, became defensive and argumentative, accusing me of "sassing" her insisting that such training was unnecessary. Her reaction was unsettling, especially since I was there with my three children, aged 9 and 7. I always strive to avoid conflict, particularly in front of my children, but I found myself frustrated by Forest's dismissive attitude. Despite my calm and constructive approach, she seemed intent on misinterpreting my suggestion.
The other employee appeared uncomfortable and didn't take my suggestion personally, but it was clear she was unsure how to handle the situation as it escalated. The entire experience was disappointing and unsettling for both me and my children.
As a result of this experience today, I will be spending my money with businesses that know how to provide better...
Read moreHonour has been my go-to spot for the last couple of years, and honestly it just keeps getting better! I love making this a regular stop when I'm in the area, and here's why:
First off, the acai bowls are simply the best I've had in MN. They are always fresh, delicious, and packed with the perfect mix of ingredients. Whether you're in the mood for something sweet or looking for a healthy boost, these bowls never disappoint.
It's also worth mentioning in the past few months, I've noticed a significant improvement in the quality of the coffee. The brews are consistently rich, smooth, and flavorful. It's clear the team has invested time and effort into refining their coffee offerings, and it shows with every sip.
What really sets Honour apart, though, is the staff. The baristas are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people you'll ever meet. They remember my name, my favorite orders, and always serve with a smile. Their warmth and genuine hospitality make each visit special.
Lastly, the parking situation is a dream. Finding a coffee shop in Minneapolis with an actual parking lot is a rare gem, and Honour nails it. It's so convenient to just pull in, grab my coffee, and go. No more circling the block endlessly looking for a spot!
Overall, Honour Coffee & Raw Juice is is one of my favorite spots in Minneapolis, and it has only gotten better with time. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't be...
