*Will never be coming back and I strongly advise anyone who values basic respect and decency to think twice before dining here.
I used to visit this place often with friends before the pandemic. The Mount Bluesuvious burger and cheese curds were our favorites, and the ambience was great.
Today, I went with my wife after years. The hostess (medium build, curly hair) told us there were no tables available and suggested we sit at the bar. Since my wife wasn’t up for that, we kindly declined and left. But as we were leaving, I saw the hostess clean an empty corner table by the window, which seemed odd since she hadn’t offered it to us.
We were parked right in front of the window on the street. As we were searching for another place to go on our phones, we saw a group of four Caucasians and another young Caucasian couple go in. I saw the hostess, now back at the booth, point to the empty corner table to the group of four, who opted to sit elsewhere and moved toward the bar. She then offered the same table to the couple, who were given menus and seated there.
Me and my wife were both surprised and frankly a little disturbed. I went back in to ask the hostess why we weren’t offered that table just minutes earlier. She fumbled and claimed the couple had been waiting on that table - a blatant lie. I told her that, for one, I saw the couple just get in and more importantly, saw her offer the same table to the group of four before the couple.
She shamelessly lied more, saying they had another friend in the bar that was waiting on the table for them. There was no friend. We had seen how she took the couple alone to the table. She then mentioned outdoor seating, which hadn’t been offered initially and appeared closed anyway. There was no one seated outside and it was barely lit.
Are people of color(I’m a brown guy) not welcome in Blue Door Pub anymore? I sincerely hope this was just an issue with one staff member and not a reflection of the establishment’s values. Having said that, we are obviously not going back here ever again.
P.S.: I didn’t catch the hostess’s name, but I came in at 7:50 pm on Sept 17, 2024. Hopefully, management will take a good look at the kind of people...
Read moreAll I will say is...I think I just had one of the best burgers I've had in my life!
Blue Door Pub near the U of M campus has finally opened! The place is amazing! I love the layout and open space this place gives over the Saint Paul location. It's very roomy and you won't feel claustrophobic at all. There's plenty of seating for large parties and groups. Parking is plentiful, both on the street and in their back lot.
Now onto the burgers! The burgers here are amazing! More so than the one in the Saint Paul location. There is a difference in their menus and the difference is BOMB! I got the Mount Blucuvious! It consist of Ghost Pepper Cheese, Fried Avocado, Thick Cut Bacon coated in a spicy dry rub with creamy lime sauce. This is probably the best burger I've had..better than the ones I've tried at the other Blue Door Pub location and Red Cow. The ghost pepper cheese makes it quite spicy! It's freakin delicious though. The creamy lime sauce might sound weird, but it pairs damn well with the burger. I asked them to cook my patty as raw as they can and they didn't disappoint! I love my meat raw! The fried avocado and bacon was a good addition as well. So unhealthy, but so good! I can't wait to come back to this location as Mount Blucuvious is exclusive to the Como Ave location.
Lastly, the service here is top notch. My girlfriend and I ordered Cajun Tater Tots with our burgers, but they came with regular tots. They were nice and brought out another basket of cajun tots... Tots for days...
I can't wait to come to this Blue Door Pub location from now on! This one's bomb! I'm glad they opened one up here!! Woot....
Read moreOrdering is on your phone. It’s pretty easy and self explanatory but I have a few suggestions. First of all, I couldn’t find anywhere to add extra sauce on the side with my wings. I always need extra sauce no matter where I’m at. I eventually found a whole “sauces” category on their menu but it wasn’t until after I’d eaten all my food and was looking for dessert…. Which they don’t have any of, btw. I suggest adding an “extra sauce” option in the actual order menu of the food item. I also suggest just adding an “additional notes” section at the bottom of each order where I can request a swap or special request I may not see on your menu. For example, the other issue I ran into was that when ordering the chicken sandwich I had, it comes with bread and butter pickles, which you can remove…. But there was no option for me to then add regular dill pickles, extra aoli it comes with (which i also needed), etc.
All that being said, it was solid bar food. I got the hot mother clucker (spicy chicken sandwich) with fries and strawbanero wings as an appetizer. Wings were fine. I feel like Buffalo would have been my preference. Needed more sauce but but husband liked them as is. Chicken sandwich was fine as well. I feel like a Blucy would have been the better option.
Fries were meh. Not crispy at all and desperately needed salt.
I’m not itching to go back but I’ve heard people rave about it so maybe you just gotta order the right thing. 🤷🏻♀️
Service was great and food came out fast and correct (minus the few extras I couldn’t request due to menu...
