I'll start with the good. Hazel basil sandwich was great. Kids options were also pretty good (hot dog and picnic plate (aka kids' charcuterie)). Now for the rest... Walked in at 6 and was pleasantly surprised to find a table that had freshly been vacated. Server quickly brought water. Then, the service to a long hiatus: no one asked us for drink orders, nothing. After what seemed like a long time but was probably only 10 minutes, the server returned and we ordered food right away so that we could get it in the queue as we had kids who were getting hungry. I figured he'd come back to ask us for drinks but he never did. After about 5-10 minutes, which I thought was fairly quick, we received one of the adult sandwiches and the kids' charcuterie plates but not the other kid meal (hot dog) and was asked, then, if it was ok to switch the ordered haloumi for burrata as they had run out. I said fine. We then proceeded to wait 20-25 minutes for the other half of the ordered food! At first, those with food waited for the rest of the food to come but, eventually we just gave up and shared what had arrived...picnic style? Anyway, eventually the server came to apologize it was taking so long and, finally, the rest of the food arrived when the first half had already been bussed. Second sandwich was pretty good, albeit improvised. So, a disappointing meal. We might try again in the hope that they have worked out their service woes but, given the other great food around, it probably...
Read moreI enjoyed one of the best solo “girl dinners” at Picnic this evening! I’d stopped in before for an after dinner drink and had the Mezcal Margarita and have been craving it ever since, gave up on making a “real” excuse to stop by and drove in from the city. My, my was I NOT disappointed. I got the Hills salad, the Mezcal Margarita and a Baguette with Butter. It ended up being just what I needed. The salad had a great acidity and bite to it without being overwhelming, and bread and butter (oh my goodness, the bread and butter) was incredibly flavorful and everything you’d ever want in a simple bite. Topping it all off with the marg that I’d been dreaming about for a couple weeks now, I was far from disappointed. The atmosphere also did not disappoint, with Linden Hills residents buzzing and out and about on a Thursday night! If you’re ever out and in need a reliably good bite and drink, this is your place...
