My partner & I made our 2nd visit to this location last night (Sunday) & were disappointed a 2nd time. We've ordered & enjoyed the food at the Nicolet location many times over the years, so we thought we knew what to expect, but were let down both times.
The counter service was friendly, but the food & management were pretty poor. I ordered the One Love bowl with pulled chicken & vegetable curry. My partner just wanted something light, so she ordered a side of slaw & a side of rice & beans.
The meat, curry & plantains were fine. The chicken was maybe a little dry, but the slaw & rice & beans were not good. The slaw wasn't slaw. It was wilted, soggy, shredded iceberg lettuce. The rice barely had any beans, and was super bland.
I approached the counter to ask if they would be able to replace or refund the side of slaw & told them that we didn't get any beans in our rice. The counter person spent about 5 minutes running around the patio looking for the manager & when he found him he came to our table to let us know he was going to correct the mistake.
He did bring us a side of rice & beans (just one, even though I had it in my bowl as well as the extra side that my partner ordered) & explained that the cook didn't bother to stir the pot & just left the beans & rice separated when he scooped them into the containers. When I asked about the slaw, he said he would correct that too, & returned to the kitchen. I finished my meal within about 15 minutes & the manager never returned. We sat for an extra 5-10 minutes to see if he'd follow up with us, but he never did. I approached the counter to ask for the manager again, but before I got a word out, the counter person told me they refunded the side of slaw. No receipt was issued & now I've seen other reviews state that they were told they'd be refunded, but never were. So we'll see... If I do find that I was refunded, I'll check back & edit my review, but I'm not holding my breath.
Seems like such a wasted opportunity. Beautiful location & so many other restaurants competed for this spot. I hope Pimento turns things around. But if not, the city should look into other options for a vendor here. On top of that, there seems to be 2 kitchens on this site, but both serve the same menu. Another wasted opportunity to provide more options.
I won't be back. If I want Pimento, I'll just go to the Nicolet location. If I want to eat by the lake, I'll just get takeout from nearby Brim or Lake & Irving & bring it to the lake. (Both are...
Read moreI’m a huge fan of Pimento on Nicollet and I was excited to try their newest location on Bde Maka Ska, known as “Pimento on the Lake.” Not surprisingly, the location is beautiful. There are plenty of places to sit and take in the views of the lake, as well as shady spots for those particularly hot days. The overall pavilion is a major upgrade from the previous building (which was home to Tin Fish.)
As for the food, it was delicious as always. We ordered the standard jerk chicken combo with chicken, rice, beans, plantains and a little slaw. We also tried the jerk black bean burger and it was very tasty. The fries were even better, crispy and flavorful.
Unfortunately, the service wasn't great. We ordered our food and no one told us what happened next. The person at the register just handed us a receipt without saying a word. Fortunately, when we wandered around the corner to find a table, we saw the signs for a separate pick-up window. No problem. We waited. It took about 15 minutes and no one else was waiting for food besides us. No big deal. But after picking up our food, I realized the waters were missing. I went back to the pick-up window, only to be completely ignored by 4-5 different staff members over the course of 10 minutes. I mean, they all looked at me from back at their stations several times, but no one moved. Finally, I had to ask in a loud voice (they were all back in the kitchen) “Hello?? Can someone help me??” Reluctantly, someone wandered over to tell me: “You have to get your water from the other window.” So, I went back to where I originally paid, stood in line for 5 more minutes, and finally received our waters.
I wish I could give Pimento on the Lake 5 stars. The food and location are outstanding. But the service was lacking that day and I believe they’ll improve over time. I hope they will! We’ll go back and...
Read moreWent for a nice bike ride along all the lakes and the wife and I decided to stop in and relax. Everything is WAY over priced. 1st off the ordering area was not well laid out. You could either do it yourself or from the attendant behind the counter. BUT you cant order liquor (which would have great to know BEFORE) from the self order. So we had to stand in line twice. The gentleman behind the counter was very slow and seemed lost. We did just a Red Stripe beer ($12) a pre-made frozen margarita ($13) and a order of chicken strips and fries (another $12). I even thought I had already paid for both us after he said the total and he STILL hadn't even added the margarita (which we asked for twice). Then it took almost 20 minutes to get the food, so we basically nursed the hell out our drinks cuz i ain't spending another $20+. Then the gal calling names and or numbers giving out the food seemed lost and not knowing some sort of more organized and speedy way of doing it. On top of all of this both times ordering their registers asked me 3 F'n times to give them MORE MONEY?!? Come on, seriously.
Side note like to thank the 2 douche bags would burned down the classic old building, so our wonderful city can build the eye sore that's there now. No soul to it whatsoever and doesn't fit the area at all. Thanks...
