Left disappointed.
Additional context - this place does not take reservations. Which is fine. I did my due diligence, asked what the best way would be to have my birthday group of 15 attend and was told to show up early so that our group could be seated.
Once I arrived it was a different story. A woman about 5 foot 2(ish) met us at the host stand 5-10 minutes after we got there with a look like she had already had a DAY (it's 10:45am). She looked me up and down and was very bothered by (me?🤚🏾?) my group size. She said, "Let me ask my manager if we can seat a group that big". The manager, who was about 20 feet from us, and her had a short conversation. She came back and told me...
They couldn't seat 15 people together. People could be broken up around the restaurant, no guarantee that anyone would be near anyone else. That the best they could do is seat 12 of us together but only if we waited an hour and that the other 3 people would need to get seated first and again, no telling where they would be seated.
I reminded them that I asked beforehand about this and what I was told. That if I showed up with my birthday party group ahead of time, they could make something work. I guess this is what they meant? Or maybe they have different solutions depending on how you look 🤷🏾♀️
Stone face. No working with us. No trying to come up with another solution. No offer to have us all sit outside on the nearly empty patio. Nothing.
Understood.
They didn't want us there. It was clear. If you've ever been in this situation before, you know what it is.
I've never been so disappointed in a restaurant here in MN before. On the way out under their breath they said, "happy birthday", mockingly.
I can't stress enough how rude and inconsiderate this host and frankly, the manager for not coming to talk to us directly, we're on Sunday July 13th. I will never visit again based on this experience and I recommend that you consider an alternative even if their decor is cute 🤷🏾♀️ I can't give my hard earned money to a business so willing to dismiss a birthday celebration AND treat a potential customer so poorly.
Absolutely not for us.
Edit to add 7/22 after the restaurant commented below.
P.S. The representative of this restaurant can continue sharing the same response on everyone who calls it out. Fact of the matter is, if multiple people are saying it, it's time to send in some secret diners to give you an idea of how certain employees represent your business. I'm not the only one with a similar experience. Additionally, the fact that the employees won't acknowledge that a party of 15 was even there is your first red flag.
Clarification in case my initial review wasn't clear - they wanted to scatter my birthday group across the restaurant and left us no option but to leave. Making each, "solution" less ideal than the last. It was abundantly clear they didn't want our money 🤷🏾♀️
There was no one in line ahead of us.
Focus on the right...
Read moreI had a great experience at this restaurant a couple weekends ago!
We had Madalyn as our server and she was fabulous - super friendly and gave us great recommendations.
I personally found the ambiance to be a little overwhelming especially because they had music blaring pretty loudly - definitely not a spot I would pick if I was really trying to catch up with someone - but I would definitely come here again. They also had a DJ playing when we came which was kind of fun - but again pretty loud and very busy so a little hard to converse. I really liked the wide array of options that they offered on the menu and had a hard time picking just a couple items to try. The decor is also vibrant and colorful.
Vanilla Latte / Specialty Drink I really liked the vanilla latte we got here - it had good flavor and was a fine price - all you can ask of a latte really. We also tried one of their seasonal specialty 'mocktail' drinks which was a mix of pineapple juice, guava puree and sparkling water (among other things I can't fully recall). Overall that drink was mediocre - it sounded fun but ended up just tasting like pineapple juice - nothing else really came through which was a little bit of a bummer because it cost more than the latte.
Breakfast Egg Rolls - 10/10 These were delicious - I really enjoyed eating them with the sweet thai chili sauce. On their own they weren't too dry which was one thing I was a little nervous of. Such a fun concept that I haven't seen before combining breakfast flavors in an egg roll.
Jamaican Me Hungry - 8/10 I liked this dish a lot but felt the portion size was a little small for an entrée. I liked the combination of sweet and savory with the pineapple salsa/sweet corn cake and the carnitas. I felt like it could have been a little saucier because the corn cake was pretty thick and somewhat dry (as you might expect from a corn cake).
S'mores Pancakes - 5/10 Visually very attractive but somewhat disappointing in application. I liked the flavor but all of the toppings were only on the top which left a pretty dry and plain bottom two pancakes. I also expected more toppings even for the top pancake - I felt there was a surprising lack of Nutella. Just too dry and too plain. Still good pancakes but not worth the price and a bit of a...
Read moreHoney, let me tell you about my latest obsession! The Breakfast Club in Minneapolis's Uptown neighborhood is serving pure magic, and I am LIVING for every delicious moment!
This place is giving me everything I need - from the moment I walked in, it was clear this wasn't just another breakfast spot. The entire restaurant is an homage to the totally radical 80s, complete with music videos that had me literally jumping out of my seat when hometown hero Prince's "When Doves Cry" started playing. I mean, could it be any more perfect?
But let's talk about Rico, darling - this server is an absolute STAR! Not only did he break down the menu like he was telling the most fascinating story you've ever heard, but his energy? Infectious! This is the kind of service that makes me want to write a tell-all book about magnificent hospitality professionals.
Now, the cocktails? STOP IT RIGHT NOW! The Espresso Martini with Tito's Handmade Vodka and Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur is what dreams are made of - garnished with exactly three espresso beans because they understand the importance of presentation! And don't even get me started on the Maple Cold Fashioned with Bulleit Bourbon and cold brew - it's like breakfast and happy hour had a beautiful baby!
The Sweet 'n Smoky Chicken Sandwich? GORGEOUS! We're talking perfectly fried chicken on a brioche bun with this incredible pineapple salsa situation that had me making sounds that probably shouldn't be legal in public. And if you're feeling like a Basic B (which, let's be honest, sometimes we all are), their classic two eggs with hash browns will give you exactly what you need.
But wait - there's more! The Tipsy Turtle cocktail? It's like dessert and boozy brunch had a passionate love affair, and I am here for every single sip. Bailey's, salted caramel, cold brew, topped with whipped cream? YES, PLEASE!
The vibe is immaculate, the staff is everything, and I haven't stopped thinking about this place since I left. Rico and team, you have created something so special here. The Breakfast Club isn't just serving meals - it's serving MOMENTS, darling, and I am absolutely obsessed!
Watch what happens - this place is about to become the hottest spot in Minneapolis, and honey, you heard...
