I have never left a review before, but I have also never been physically shoved out of a bar.

I was waiting for my Uber at 1:45 in the warming area, but immediately at 1:50 I was told to leave, with the bouncer citing it was 2:00 and the bar was as closed (still I was not even in the bar, but just waiting in the area between the outside and the actual bar itself). I showed the bouncer the time on my phone, which showed 1:50, and he was very adamant that “the bar closed at 2”. The digital clock inside the bar showed 2:00, but I was just in the warming area, so I thought was a reasonable ask. After showing him the diff between my clock vs their clock again, he forcibly shoved me out the door making me trip and fall, and then slammed the door shut and would not let me back in to wait for my Uber.

This was during late fall/early winter and I was dressed warm, but if this was a weeks later I would’ve felt in danger. There were several girls out there in minimal clothing that had seemed to have been sent out in a similar manner. This is my 4th time at 1029 and extremely unimpressed with their consistent treatment of customers.

Would not recommend...

We were in town the first of October for two nights. The first night was a Sunday and we rolled into here around 9 to catch the football game and a bite to eat. The kitchen was already closed but the bartender was super awesome! We had a few drinks and since they close at 11pm on Sundays he recommended some other places for us to check out and grab a bite to eat. So when Monday rolled around we went back with our moms to watch more football and drink. Monday we got food. I got the lobster roll and it was AMAZING! We had the best time, our bartender again was AWESOME! Play some pull tabs, won some money, played the iPad games, lost some money. Overall experience here was GREAT! Have been telling everyone back home in Kentucky how great of a city Minneapolis is, and they HAVE to go to this bar!!! As a manager of a college dive bar I can appreciate a good dive bar, and this one...

The outside seating was very roomy. The menu is on the dry ease board, so there was only about ten items to choose from. We went on Sunday evening about 7:30 pm. No reservations needed. Which worked out perfect. Menu was until 9pm. My only issue was the waitress needed to have a better understanding of "service". I ordered a drink with lemon, and the lemon was forgotten-it happens no biggie. I asked the server if she could please bring some lemons. She said yes. Then I watched as she left the dining area went inside returned checked on another table went back again came out put umbrellas down outside until I finally waved. It wasn't busy. She could've grabbed them right away. Also had to say we're ordering food. Idk maybe she doesn't know. A T.I.P. that is left is "To Insure Promtness" . Do not let that discourage you from visiting. I also played $20 in pull tabs...

What makes a good local bar? Quality music, good food, reasonably priced drinks, a way to gamble a little, and of course that local hometown feel from the workers. All can be found here and been going to 1029 for a couple of years. I just got back from a deployment and decided to throw a welcome back party for all my friends back in February 2022. Mark was super helpful in making sure we had a good time and ever since then he became a friend and always makes sure our group feels safe. He treats everyone fairly, very respectful, and always thanks us for our service. Here is a recent picture of us during his day off. 1029 is a must visit if you want to meet local MN, get a taste of a dive bar, and experience the MN Nice.

We couldn't have had more fun. The have an amazing and vibrant atmosphere. Our server Emma gave every table the best she had to offer. We had so much fun with her. And even as out group got larger she still managed to keep up with requests and jokes we were shouting at her. Now the food. I can't say this strongly enough. THE LOBSTER IS REAL. THE WINGS ARE SEASONED TO PERFECTION. THE BURGER WAS THICK AND JUICY. AND THE FRENCH FRY SEASONING I WANTED TO TAKE HOME. the drink menu is a little light but they will create whatever mix you want. And they are not stingy with the spirits. I wish I could take this place back to Texas with me.
