Read moreThis place is lovely, the food is delicious, the staff is incredibly friendly. When you first arrive, you are hit with this absolutely adorable storefront. Flowers and vines and a bench and some chairs. As soon as you open the door, the scent of freshly baked everything smacks you in the nose. When you approach the counter, the sweet ladies explain to you that there are no preservatives, no dairy, no eggs, and everything is kosher and organic. I visited with my parents and my toddler on a vacation, and the women were very helpful, giving us recommendations on what to see and where to go. I grabbed my mom a complimentary decaf coffee and we had samples of the chocolate babka bread. In the end, we chose cranberry scones (delightfully tart), the banana walnut muffin (dense and didn't need any butter), and cinnamon rolls (sweet and rich). The only downside is the pinpad prompting for a tip, which feels unnecessary. When did tipping cashiers become a standard expectation? It is simply annoying and feels like you are insulting the cashier when you select "No tip" on the tip begging machine.
I am not opposed to tipping in general, but it’s frustrating when it feels like everyone is constantly asking for it.
My suggestion? Spare customers the awkwardness of facing a tip-requesting screen every time they pay. Replace it with a tip jar, you know.
