Kai's Sushi & Grill Minnetonka — Restaurant in Minnetonka

We’ve been to the Minnetonka location a few times and tonight’s service was the worst I’ve had anywhere in years. We ordered some sushi and my wife ordered the ramen. Our sushi arrived and 5 mins later our server comes back and tells us they are out of ramen and asks what she would like. We have conferences for our daughter next door and don’t have time for them to make a new meal. The problem is we ordered 25 mins prior but they tell us 5 mins after our sushi arrives and this is our fault because we have to leave. I bring this to Kai’s attention and he tells us they sold a lot or ramen that day and ran out and his server was scared of the chef and what could he (Kai) do because good help is hard to find. Then we are told we won’t be charged for the ramen and will get a 10% discount. This meal should be half off or free for such horrible time managed service. It shocks me that the owner didn’t take responsibility when his employees messed up. There are better run sushi places in the are that will be getting our service as we don’t plan on...

Story time, I promise it's relevant. About two years ago, my boyfriend and I ventured out to California and were craving Asian food. Our AirBnB host mentioned a family owned restaurant down the rode and we went down to check it out. That was the night we were introduced to real Japanese ramen. Oh, it was phenomenal. Since returning from our trip, we've searched all over the twin cities area for ramen that could match what we had in Cali. It seemed like nothing could compare...until we sat down at Kai's. The ramen we had was so good, I wanted more and more even though I felt as though my stomach would burst. This place is awesome. Best service, excellent food, wonderful staff, and extremely clean and pleasant environment that is both relaxing and warm. The lunch menu is quite expansive and the lunch portions are essentially a dinner portion. The wait times are zero, and the time it takes from ordering to eating is very fast. I am a vegetarian and the menu has quite a few options to accommodate this. The menu also has options for those who are gluten free and, who have other needs. I’ve been here multiple times on various days both busy and slow and the experience is always the same- wonderful. I highly recommend.
