My wife and I are from San Fernando which is just north of Los Angeles. We were on vacation in San Juan Capistrano and we were looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant. I googled Mexican restaurants near us and a few popped up. I looked at the photos and read some of the reviews. We tried a different Mexican restaurant and they were good. A few nights later I wanted Mexican food again that wouldn't put a big dent in my wallet. So my wife and I went for a drive and we were so so happy that we did. My wife had the mole burrito and I got an asada taco and a tripas taco and carnitas taco. My wife loved her mole burrito and I loved my taco's (you can get hard shell taco's if you want) . We asked for the hottest salsa that they had and it was spicy 🔥 and delicious 🤤. Needless to say we got some tacos to go. We were on vacation for another 4 days. The morning that we left to come back home. We decided to stop and get some food for our drive home. I got a carnitas burrito and my wife got her mole burrito and we got some extra spicy salsa. We ate some in traffic on the way home and it made it so much better. If you love authentic Mexican food you have to try this place. You...

My friend brought me a carne asada burrito here once, and on my first bite I demanded to know where it came from. Perlas. Since that tasteful day I frequent this rare hole in the wall Mexican joint and jump at the chance to eat here when mentioned, trying new things most of the times I visit. You walk in and you'll see mostly Hispanics enjoying the closest thing to their homemade cooking in the area, a great sign for the delicious meal to come. Carne asada, carnitas, and al pastor are among my favorites here, in any different delivery method to my mouth. Their taco Tuesday is 1.50 I think for a small taco, but boy are you in for a treat. So many options to choose from and not one has disappointed yet. Order 3-4 to start but don't be shy in ordering more. Taste the rainbow of tacos on Tuesday. A great variety and killer quality has me coming...

Perla’s is a cozy taqueria with a large menu and great bang for your buck! My husband and I stopped by for lunch and ordered with our empty stomachs: ceviche mixto (fish, shrimp, and scallop), fish taco, shrimp taco, California burrito, crispy chicken taco, crispy lengua taco, and a crème-filled churro.

We were served complimentary chips and salsa (their spicy salsa was so flavorful)! The ceviche was a standout: super fresh with a generous portion. Some of the tacos were a bit on the dry side and could’ve used more sauce, but the California burrito hit the spot!

For what felt like pre-pandemic prices, the amount and quality of food was an excellent value. A salsa bar would’ve really taken things to the next level, but overall, we enjoyed our meal and would...

Overall, my experience at Perla's for Taco Tuesday was just ok not outstanding. The cashiers were friendly, and the $1.75 taco deal was a great value when you're on a pinch. They also provided free chips and salsa. I found the spicy salsa had a good kick while the mild lacked flavor. The tacos were a mixed bag. The shrimp was overcooked and shrunk in size, the lengua and fried fish were just okay, but the al pastor was juicy and flavorful. It was a shining star amongst my plate of tacos. The salsa verde was way too mild for my taste, and the tortillas were chewy and tough. While I had high hopes based on the reviews, I wasn't blown away and may need to give Perla's another chance in the future.
