Have traveled many hours over the past years to dine at this amazing destination. We love returning to the Monroe area whenever possible to visit all of our favorite spots. We recently traveled over 7 hours from Missouri to spend just a couple of nights in Monroe. Arrived at 850 PM on 1/29/24. Someone came to door and said they were closed. (website says they are open till 10 PM). Very disappointing. Fortunately we were able to find some other local establishments that actually stayed opened till the times that were listed on websites. Very disappointed that Baumgartners couldnāt stay open till listed time, even if they werenāt busy. Other businesses in Monroe area told me they wouldnāt close early even if no one was at their establishment. I feel that is good business ethics! No hard feelings. We found business that will take care of us even if we are the only ones there. I still feel Baumgartners is great destination, but disappointed in policy to close over one hour early if nobody there. In my humble opinion it would be in customers best interest to keep website operating...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat can I say....being a 3rd generation Limburger cheese fan we HAD TO go to Baumgartner's. Mrs. Turtle& I where going from the North Coast of Ohio to Green Bay when I heard about the Chalet Cheese Co-op (see my review), and Baumgartners's Cheese store and Tavern, welllllll, a detour was scheduled. Baumgartner's had all the charm of a Swiss chalet or Bavarian beer garden with GRRRREAT service, prices, cold local brewed dark beer (Huber Bock) AND local made Limburger cheese, smiles all around. Our bartender, Kyle, was one pleasant, engaging, young man who was johnny on the spot. As you can see from the photos I thoroughly enjoyed the Limburger, braunschweiger, onion on rye bread washed down by a pint of Huber Bock. Mrs. Turtle, well, SHE doesn't appreciate the finer things in life so she had the cheese platter with sausage and we both wolfed down some curds. Praises to all....food, price, service, ambiance, AND the city of Monroe Wi. a pleasant town in a pleasant state with GRRRREAT Limburger cheese, Well...

So, the safety here is great! I informed the server of my "severe gluten allergy" (I'm asymptomatic celiac), and she immediately went into a spiel about changing gloves and cutting boards, etc. They take it very seriously.
They have gluten free breads, so any sandwich can be GF. She verified that Cole slaw, potato salad, tomato bisque soup, and chili are GF. The kettle chips are not GF.
I enjoyed my brick cheese and salami (uncertain if it was "hard" or not) sandwich! Never had brick cheese before--it is a very soft, creamy cheese (harder than Brie) with a subtle flavor. Perfect for being with salami! My side was cole slaw. It was nice and fresh, but needed either some salt or acid because it didn't have much flavor.
Definitely recommend this restaurant! Had a great experience. The server was cheerful, knowledgeable,...
