Likes: The waiter was incredibly nice and so attending even though the place was packed. We went on a Saturday night, about 6pm. We didn't make a reservation but we were accommodated, which was great. The food was delicious. The portions vs prices were fair. The atmosphere seemed pleasant and clean. I loved the way it is decorated. It is rustic/chic but not overdone in a tacky way which is common. Nothing seemed to need dusting either which is great. Our food was on time after ordering it so the cook is on point and knows the difference between med-well and med-rare. This is often a disappoint as we both like our steaks med-rare and will get them med-well.
Dislikes: The menus are difficult to read and resemble a grocery market sale paper. The font is huge, switches between red and black and there is little spacing. It could be toned down especially considering the low lighting. Also, where are the appetizers? What is offered as appetizers are actually entrees. It would be nice to be offered something on the lighter side like a pita and dip, a light soup or perhaps some kind of loaded nacho where people can nosh on it instead of chili and tamales which could upset someone's stomach before ever ordering. The bathrooms need more light desperately. When I walked in, I was looking for the switch and thought it was just a nightlight.
Overall? I like it. Food is good. Pricey, but fair for the portion. I'll definitely go back but I'll keep ordering the same thing and bring a lantern. I think it deserves 4 stars but the menus & missing appetizers are unforgivable. 5 stars would mean better lighting, legible menus and appropriate portions...
Read moreWell we waited on an uncomfortable bench for 17 minutes after our reservation, so I'm really not sure why you'd even need one since you have to wait anyway. I have to say that the food is excellent and cooked exactly how you order it, which is a nice surprise after trying every other steakhouse in the area. After finally getting a table we actually started being treated like we exist and our server was sweet and attentive as long as we were ordering stuff. The worst part of going out to eat is the long wait for getting the ticket and the return of your card, and this place was way worse than par for the course. We got the ticket in reasonable time which I was hoping was a good sign. I was so wrong. We waited 14 minutes and I just had to check, we never saw our server again. We finally asked to pay at the bar, and asked if our server had gone home for shift change or something, but he said that she just got busy. He did say he probably should have picked up the table but he just didn't and sorry. Well of course that made it all better, but still I doubt I'll recommend Doe's restaurant to anyone I'd like to have an enjoyable evening. You get treated with much more respect at most other steakhouses in the area, just nicely clarify how you'd like your steak to look and it's a much better experience than...
Read moreSteaks were great! Cook on them were awesome, a little too much fat on the ends of them, but it was okay with us. Lobster was okay, but they didn't have a lot of meat, considering it was 40$ Spinach and artichoke dip was fantastic!
The sides were not very good... the Mac n cheese tasted like cheap Rotel dip made with velveta... Green beans looked good but just tasted like crab boil oil, didnt even taste the bacon or green beans ... au gratin potatoes were too peppery but overall good flavor... salad was great.
I also had their cranberry mule, I thought it was wonderful. It was very flavorful and could tell it had enough alcohol in it.
The atmosphere was really nice for a romantic dinner but I wish they had some calming music. We could hear just about everyone's conversations, including the workers.. music could help block some of that out. Especially on a Saturday night, when it is busy.
I had high standards when we received our food, since it looked amazing. Sadly, the sides really let us down. (I was brought here as a surprise date night, so I hadn't viewed any reviews to compare our experience at the time) For the price, I don't believe it was worth it. I would just stick with steak, salad, a drink, and maybe the potatoes next time. I am very disappointed by...
