We had eaten here before a long time ago and it’s been a while. I wanted to try something different than the norm and noticed I had never reviewed Dad’s so here it is.
Placed a to go order and picked up a variety of items today as follows:
The Chicago - this beef hotdog was packed with toppings galore to include tomatoes, relish, onions, pickle, sport pepper, yellow mustard and a dash of celery salt. By the time we got it home, the bread was a little soggy but the air fryer can be your savior on this. My first time having this style do and it was not bad.
The fresh cut fries that came with the sandwiches and hot dogs were a little dry and a tad over cooked. Not my favs.
Old #7 - grilled beef hotdog “Primanti style” with coleslaw and fries was different. Not sure how I felt about it. A lot going on.
Greuben Corned beef sandwich - was the star of the show for me. I ordered. The corned beef with Swiss, coleslaw and thousand island. It was served on fresh marble rye and was juicy and flavorful with every bite.
Gyro - my husband typically does not like gyros that he cannot see the meat being sliced in front of you from the authentic rotating kebab. I wanted to give it a try at Dads because of the way it was advertised on their website as being their “hands-down, two-hander Pub favorite with the Lamb, tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion in a fresh pita.” The verdict was that it was very good was packed with meat, sauce and vegetables and I was extremely impressed despite my husbands apprehension.
The beer cheese fries were ok but they were better than the fresh cut ones. Softer.
Large brisket Mac n cheese for 10.99 - was okay. A little skimpy with the meat portions for the price but it had a great taste and flavor.
Lg Grilled Chicken Salad - decent size and what you’d expect.
Kid Hot Dog came with one side.
I would certainly recommend that you dine in. I tried to drive carefully but the loose containers inside of my two bags kept shifting and despite my efforts to secure everything; I managed to get cheese sauce on a bunch of the containers I think from the cheese fries we ordered.

Read moreAs out-of-towners, we frequently look for great new restaurants to try when coming to the Pittsburgh area for various events and appointments. Dad's Pub & Grub did not disappoint. From the moment we were seated in the comfortable outdoor area, the service was exceptional. Knowledgeable and friendly, our server knew both the menu and its flavors. She explained that Dad's focuses on freshly made foods instead of frozen, premade offerings.
The Pub also offers a full range of beers, including the refreshingly fruity 'Rivertowne Hala Kahiki' IPA that my daughter chose for our early lunch. For an appetizer, we ordered 'Dad's Fireballs,' which are these amazing hand-breaded hotpepper cheese balls. The cheese melts remarkably smoothly and is coated in a crispy breading. So delicious.
Next, I tried the Buffalo Chicken Mac+Cheese. Ever a mac n' cheese optimist, more often than not I'm disappointed. Not today! The corkscrew macaroni was chewy and the cheese sauce creamy; these were mixed with small bites of chicken breast and a flavorful buffalo sauce. I ordered the small portion, which proved to be the perfect size for lunch with an appetizer.
My daughter selected the Buffalo Chicken Toasted Cheese, stuffed with pepperjack, chicken, and a mild wing sauce. The sandwich was served with a choice of homemade chips or fries. She opted for beer battered fries that were crispy outside and hot and chewy inside.
We visited the Monroeville location, but our server explained that a second restaurant recently opened in Pittsburgh. It's exciting to discover locally owned establishments featuring freshly made foods. Dad's will definitely remain on our shortlist of...
