About a month ago I had issue at this restaurant and sent a lengthy email but never heard back. Last week I had another issue so I'm posting both here since management doesn't respond to emails.
I hit this Mad Mex for takeout on the way out of town to a few destinations. Last month I placed a pretty large order (almost $100) online. Because the online modification system is lacking things like "no tortilla" for salads and "sauce on the side" for tacos, I had to call in to make modifications for food allergies. The woman who answered the phone couldn't be bothered to let me finish my sentence and told me to "call back later because they were busy". I explained about the food allergies and she begrudgingly wrote down what I said. When I arrived, I stood at the bar for almost 5 minutes with no employee behind the bar. When someone brought the food out, everything I requested was not actioned. Tortillas on an order for a gluten free person. Sauce on things. Forgot the salad dressing. I caught what I could but some things were discovered when we cut food open.
Last week I called to place a takeout order to grab before I hopped on the turnpike. To be honest, I didn't want to give them my money but the food options in Monroeville are mostly junk. I called 3 different times and nobody picked up. Then I called Greentree to ask if Monroeville was closed. The manager put me on hold, called Monroeville AND the manager and couldn't reach anyone (5 mins of hold). I called Monroeville back about 5 mins later and someone magically answered! I placed my order and when I got there, there were 2 (2!) customers. Why was nobody answering? Definitely didn't have anything to do with the employee eating Chik Fil A in the back booth on her phone or the entire pan of cake they had for some kind of employee party.
I don't tip on takeout anymore no matter where I'm calling and Mad Mex was the main impetus for this. About 50% of the time something is wrong or missing with my order but in 2025, my expectations are so low,...
Read moreHey there's no arguing the building is awesome, a great place for summer to sit outside in the sun, or under a roof, or even in the bar with fresh air blowing in the open end. I used to go there alot, it's close to the crib, and love the food. When the place first opened I spoke to the owner who is a great guy. At the time staff was awesome. About 3 months ago they lost their temp manager, can remember his name but he was a cool guy. Very personable! Now they got some woman in there whom I feel is more worried about her personal life to even realize what the restaurant is doing around her. A waitress spilt my drink on melast time I was there, but it was just water and I was outside, I wasn’t mad, but this manager came to the table yet she did not address the situation or offer any kind of apology, just said “everything ok?” even though she knew what happened. I think since she has been manger alot of new employees also followed. My guess is she was so rude to the great staff that had been collected over the years that they just left. This makes it even worse because here hiring skills leave room for more to be desired. Now that most of the good staff has left the place may not be running on auto pilot like it was when she started. Now she hired some other questionable staff, I really don’t even want to go there anymore, I dont wanna deal with the staff so I just get takeout. I did ask a waitress about the departure of my fav manager, they cried with me that he was gone and said something about when the new Mad Mex down Pittsburgh opens maybe the mean lady will leave and we get the old manager back! I would love that. I did not write this review to "bash" Mad Mex" of Monroeville. I like it there and will go with friends still. This is just my cry out to the world that the place has been reduced to a shadow of what it once was. I think were skimping in the staff...
Read moreThe two stars is a reflection more of service than food. We came in at 10:40pm after attending a Pens game for food.Their website said the kitchen was open until 11pm and the bar until midnight. When we walked in the bar was crowded and a few people in the restaurant. We stood waiting for a hostess for about 5 mins even questioning whether we should sit in the bar area since no on was showing. When she did arrive, there was no greeting instead she asked if we knew what we wanted because they were closing. I said to her that your kitchen says it is open until 11pm and it is 10:45pm and her response was we have no control over the website. We were in the process of sitting when she was asking for our drink order. We initially wanted margaritas or a beer but didn't get a chance to look and felt rushed so we ordered water. We barely looked at the menu and she was already back asking for our order. We ordered wings, wing salad, empanada, fajita burrito. All was good except the fajita burrito...it was straight rice and beans with very little chicken no onions or peppers. The whole time we were eating they were sweeping and cleaning around us and stacking chairs onto tables not an ideal setting for eating and extremely rude to customers. We never did order drinks, we ate and left by 11:15pm. If your hours say open until midnight and the kitchen is open until 11pm then that should be the case and I should have had the same dining experience as someone at 6pm. Very disappointing...we should have went...
