Booked this Hotel as it's close to the Monroeville Convention Center where the Steel City Con was taking place. We came from Michigan and Stayed here Dec 5-9th. The only real negative I'd have to say about this Holiday Inn Express is getting to the property. It's down in a gully off the main road so you have to take a side road to get to it and at night that took a little bit of navigating, but once you know where it's at it's easy.||Property was very clean and bright, definitely a good first impression. The lobby is ample and has plenty of seating for a hotel it's size. It has 5 stories I believe, with the main lobby with Breakfast and pantry on Floor 2, and fitness and pool on Floor 1. Ice Machines are on floor 1 and 3 I believe, I know there was one on three because that was our floor. The pantry had assorted snacks, pop, frozen foods and non food items.||Nikki was a hard worker, she seems to work there a ton as I seen her when we checked in on Thursday night and she was at the front desk the next morning. Very easy and quick check in and she answered all my questions I had. Got our room keys and off to the room. There are two elevators and they move pretty quickly.||Room was a double queen bed room. I forgot to take pics, but it had a closet with Iron, a desk with chair, big flat screen TV, Microwave, Mini Fridge, and Kurig Coffee maker. Bathroom was nicely sized with bathroom sink having very decent water pressure, and rain forest shower head that had decent pressure as well. The Beds were super comfy, it was one of the highlights of the room. The room also has a wall mounted thermostat for climate control. Plenty of channels on the TV to watch including HBO.||Breakfast hours are 6-9 on Weekdays and 7-10 on weekends. The breakfast area was clean and well stocked. Typical Holiday Inn Express breakfast with Oatmeal, eggs, breakfast meats (Bacon on Weekday, Links on Sat & Sun) along with Turkey Sausage. There was also biscuits and gravy, American Fries, assorted breads & bagels, muffins, and a pancake machine. Coffee and Juices as well. Breakfast was plentiful and of good quality, the sausage gravy was especially good.||Overall, staying there for four nights was a great stay. If we ever come back to Monroeville, we'll definitely stay here again. It was a great, comfy stay and at an affordable price. Kudos to the Monroeville Holiday Inn...
Read moreI have to travel for work every so often. I have stayed at a lot of Holiday Inn Express Hotels. This particular experience had a cleaner room than I have ever had. It was wonderful to not have to clean my room before unpacking. The desk staff was efficient and the "housekeeping on request" forms made me feel more at ease with the infection prevention practices at the hotel. I had missed the breakfasts very much but understand why they had stopped. I appreciate the new food safety practices of wrapping everything and more individual serving things. In general, everything was great.
Unfortunately, there was one staff person that stands out more than the others for not being great with customer service. In his defense, our first interaction was when I was looking for an employee to give me a bag to bring my breakfast back to my room. There was a sign on the fridge that said they were available. This particular employee was dressed like a regular businessman with a white polo shirt. He looked like a hotel guest. The other staff people wore blue scrubs. He told me that the sign was from the previous days when the hot breakfast was on hold. I suggested he take the sign down. He was agitated when I pointed out the sign but I was trying to be helpful. He took the sign down. The next morning, the sign was out again. There were some ladies there that were more pleasantly helpful but he ended up right in front of me again and it felt confrontational. I don't understand what I did wrong, but I think maybe if everyone wore some kind of uniform it might help. I don't feel comfortable asking other guests for help and some would be offended if I did. I don't like being mistaken for a store clerk at Target when I wear a red shirt so I don't wear one there. Of all the good in my stay, this man's attitude stands...
Read moreThis hotel seems nice at first, but don't be fooled. Any inconvenience and they will cause major problems for you. I have a severe peanut allergy, every Holiday Inn I have stayed at steamed there potatoes. My first day at this one, I noticed the potatoes were soaking in oil. I normally don't eat things like this but they had very limited choices and this was almost all they had. So like I always do in this situation decided to be safe and ask I the potatos were fried in peanut oil. I'm disabled so my husband went to ask the kitchen attendant sitting in the lobby watching TV. He seemed to be the only attendant, the attendant was immediately confrontational as my husband approached. My husband asked what oil they use to fry the potatos and he told my husband "I don't know" he then said well what can't you eat and my husband told him peanut and he said "oh yeah, no we don't use that one" my husband said I thought you didn't know? Then guy then walked away without saying another word. When he walked back out of the kitchen my husband asked if he could check for us to be safe and he he very loudly told my husband " if you're so worried don't eat it!" This hotel does not take it's guests safety serious. They don't train their kitchen to know about food allergies, we checked out after this because we were to stay there a week and couldn't utilize the free breakfast that we actually payed for with the room. So not free. The hotel claimed they understood and we checked out with the front reception, but they are now refusing a refund. They are siding with the employee and don't care that we had to leave do to health concerns. So many places still use peanut oils and people die everyday for this situation right here....
