Cafe Moderno — Restaurant in Montclair

The food is decent Mediterranean but on the day I went the service was just horrible. They had only two staff and the order taker was also waiter/bus person/cashier/sous chef. I ordered a salad with falafel to go and the order taker started to prepare it but was interrupted many times by more customers. After waiting 15 minutes I left to check on my family at the nearby Chipotle. When I returned the salad was still not ready and the order taker ignored me for at least 10 minutes until she finally said that the salad was waiting for something from the lone cook. Then I was shocked to see the cook using his bare hands to put falafels on the salad. No apologies from either of them for the long wait. Too bad I already paid and included a tip. As for the food, it was decent and the falafels were interestingly tasty though slightly burnt. They only give you a tiny cup of dressing which is not enough. I would not...

My husband had the Cobb salad with grill chicken kabob. The salad was fresh and delicious with a perfect amount of vinegrette. I had the grilled chicken pita minus the red onions and a bowl of lentil soup. Seriously the best pita with quality chicken I've ever had. The lentil soup was so good. Lentil soup is my favorite and usually I only eat my mom's but I'm so glad I tried it here. Perfect portions of food and this place definitely beats the surrounding fast food places. The inside is super clean and so are the restrooms. We opted to eat outside in the little patio area, again very clean outside too. Also, the tea tastes great and they have crushed ice! This is my new spot for lunch. I highly recommend you give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

I ordered 2 kabob meals and 1 appetizer online, received confirmation of order and was informed it would be ready in 20 minutes - PERFECT! I arrive at the restaurant at 12:05, the time my order was estimated to be ready by, just to be told I needed to wait another 20 minutes??? Okay, fine I can wait 20 minutes, then 30 minutes goes by, and I’m being told 10 MORE minutes!!!! I’m on a break from work and do not have this kind of time to waste!!!
