Paper Plane Coffee Co. — Restaurant in Montclair

The coffee is obviously better than Dunkin’ Donuts but compared to other higher end coffee places, this one is just mediocre at best. They buy beans from a supplier rather than directly from the farms. I give it a 3/5 for the coffee but minus a star because I found one of the girls hairs who made my coffee inside my coffee….if you’ve got long hair, you should probably wear a hair net. Ended up dumping the coffee as soon as I found that. Sad but that was my story from today.

EDIT in response to owner: I was told by the employees in the shop that the beans are sourced from a general supplier and NOT directly from farms. I specifically asked. The employees further had little to no knowledge about coffee either other than how to make it. I asked what farm the Sumatra was from and there was only one employee there who had a clue and even she couldn’t answer the question definitively. The person at the register had absolutely no clue.

Further and finally, I have reduced my rating from 2 stars to 1. I actually take great offense to the owner replying and insinuating that I “just wanted to write a bad review” for their shop. That is a very nasty and disrespectful way of “defending” your business and, in fact, warrants a further decrease in rating. I even live 40 mins away and I drove to Montclair specifically to try this places coffee. I definitely did not get in my car and drive that far to have a bad cup of coffee and then write a bad review! For those consumers reading, you can check my profile and see I have over 100 mostly positive and honest reviews with over 100,000 views across the country. While my honest reviews and words speak for themself, this response from the owner certainly speaks for them. Power to the consumer and honesty!

Best coffee spot in Montclair! One of the best coffee spots ever in the history of coffee spots (in my humble opinion). Top quality java. All beverages are made with love. If I'm not getting the standard drip coffee - it's all about the Mint Eastwood! One of the most incredible coffee drinks I have ever tasted! The owner Jonathan is awesome and has created something special with Paper Plane. The entire staff is super cool, friendly and kind. Big shout out to Jo and Priscilla! I think this is the prettiest cafe I have been to all year! I absolutely love the concept that they have and how they brought the plane theme to life by incorporating it so well all over the cafe!

There are so many great things to say about this place so let’s break it up into categories!

Drinks: They have over 50 drink choices to choose from - yes 50! They have variations of your classics and favorites to accommodate everyones tastes. They also have unique speciality drinks and combinations to try including Pour Over, Bubbly drinks and Cold Brew Selections. Lol I spent over 20 minutes deciding what to have but had my usual an Iced Mocha with Oatmilk and it was too delicious! The Chocolate used was of great quality and cinnamon infused. Most of their drinks can also be made vegan if you ask!

Food: They have fresh pastries available from Le French Dad which are freshly baked daily and a lot of grab and go snack options.

The Cafe / Aesthetics This cafe is pretty big and can accommodate id say a little over 20 people inside and more outside on their patio. They have a cool booth which is designed like the inside of an airplane with a window and everything. They also offer high top seating and have an outdoor seating as well. They also have a restroom on site. They also have arcade games like street fighter and mortal combat!

Product Selection They have a variety of products available for purchase like a variety of coffee beans, cold brew coffee blends, milk, recipe books, totes, mugs and etc.

The service in here is also really great and the staff is super friendly and knowledgable. I would 10/10 recommend this place and will be back when I visit NJ again...
