I always pass by this place everyday and finally decided to give it a shot when a shop next to sushi Gen called Rafu Bussan inc (gift store), the owner recommended me this place and said it was on par or better than sushi Gen. That seal the deal for me to finally give it a try. Monterey park doesnt have any high end sushi places and all of them are considered low end or starter which is alright. This place is literally a hidden gem which im surprise they were open for about a year after this post. Their fish is extremely fresh and negates the BS yelp warning of low health score alert. I have a weak stomach and i didnt get food poisoning after this post. If i do i will change this review right away. Best part there is Hida beef that they import which is an extremely soft and buttery beef which you can find in Japan and its rare for restaurants here to serve them. What surprised me that not many people know of this place yet which is perfect for me to dine in and not wait any lines. Their service is pretty good since not many people dining in and the ambiance is pretty standard from other sushi places. What stands out is the hida beef, sushi, and omakase. This restaurant for me stands in upper middle tier for pricing and sushi freshness/grade.

Pros: hidden gem that not many people know about for now i have to say their prices aint bad when their fish is on par or even better than sushi Gen which is the standard for middle entry tier raw fish. Hida beef which is extremely rare for sushi restaurants to serve that type of beef which is found in Japans prefecture of Gifu and northern part of Hida region of Japan. 3 different styles on how they cook eel which i will post pictures of when i try them all. That gives a unique take on texture and taste which not many places offer in LA and OC.

Cons: None so far assuming i dont get food poisoning. I blame yelp for posting BS health score for making me 2nd guess this place. dont see many people but that could be a bonus cause you dont have to wait in line which is a massive bonus for me since its LA.

5/5 stars will come back to try the rest of the menu before people find out about this place. Will deduct stars in the future if i get obliterated from food poisoning which i hope not since it taste great unlike Mikomi...

A new high-end sushi/omakase spot in SGV — rare to find here since most are in OC or the Westside. Glad Monterey Park finally has one!

Heard about it from my cousin’s IG and decided to try with a friend. Called ahead to reserve, staff was friendly and even asked about the occasions and allergies.

📍 Location / Parking • Inside Mars Plaza (Atlantic Blvd, just north of Garvey) • Corner spot near Vons/Bank of America plaza • Sunright Tea Studio is a couple doors down • Parking: 3-level structure in back, usually plenty of space

🍣 The Setup • Cozy interior: 3–4 tables + U-shaped sushi bar (12–15 seats) • Only 1 chef + 2–3 servers working the night I went • Chef speaks limited English, but staff explains every course clearly

📋 Menu Highlights • $80 – 12 pcs chef’s choice sushi • $100 – 15 pcs chef’s choice sushi • $120 – sushi omakase (what I got) • $150 – kaiseki (multi-course haute cuisine ) • Wagyu, a la carte & overnight food specials available

🍱 My Picks • Went with the $120 omakase → ~15 courses (apps, soup, sushi, dessert) • Fish was fresh + well-balanced • Side order: beef tongue 🔥 → super tender, highly recommend!

💰 Overall • Price is fair for the quality + amount of food • Solid B-tier omakase spot (and that’s not a bad thing!) • Definitely coming...

Dear, Owner / Manager I recently had the pleasure of dining at your restaurant and wanted to express my appreciation for several standout dishes. The sushi, Kumamoto oysters, and assorted tempura were absolutely exceptional — fresh, skillfully prepared, and beautifully presented. They truly made for a memorable experience.

However, I did want to share some constructive feedback regarding the beef tonkatsu. As someone who’s a big fan of the dish, I was unfortunately disappointed. The cut of beef used seemed to be of poor quality, and it was extremely overcooked, resulting in a tough and dry texture that didn’t reflect the standard of your other offerings.

I’m sharing this not to complain, but because I genuinely enjoyed much of the meal and hope my feedback is helpful. I would love to return in the future and try it again if improvements are made, as I believe your team has the skill and attention to detail to get it right.

Thank you again for the otherwise...
