My wife and I came here with our 3 month old baby. They sat us and then kicked us out of our seats, saying there was actually someone in front of us. We just left and went to Islands down the street, which was a much better experience. Keep reading for more details.
My wife and I have come here plenty of times before and haven't had any issues, but I was appallad at what what happened this time. I have never had a restaurant do this. There was a line to be seated, and the hostess came and took the names of everyone standing in line. There was this other family in front of us who left after they took names. Everyone else stayed in line. They came back calling the name of the family in front of us, but they left, after they confirmed they were no longer there, they then called our name and seated us at the next table availble. After we sat down and finally got our baby's car seat to fit in the booth after struggling a little bit and we had selected our food, and we were ready to order, the hostess came back and said that this one random guy was actually in front of us and she showed us the list. This list showed his name squeezed in between our name and the family that was in front of us in line. We were not sure where he came from or what exactly was going on. They made us get up with our 3 month old baby. We didn't want any trouble so we decided to leave and go somewhere else. We used to enjoy coming here frequently, but after that episode, I don't think we will be coming back. I just cannot believe they sat us and then had us get up and vacate our table. I have never heard of a restaurant doing that, especially like this. I think it worked out for the better because we went to the Islands Restaurant down the street in the Del Monte shopping center and we had a great experience there, the food is definitely better, they sat us right away, and it has a much...
Read moreJust wow! If you’re into Vietnamese Cuisine and visiting Monterey, definitely give it a shot. Everything we ordered was tasting good and their prices so low. Keep it going. Popcorn Chicken and Egg Rolls were like the usual appetizers. Chicken Noodle Soup was out of the world. So good that it just took all the stars. Grilled Five Spice Chicken, we thought it would be like noodles but instead it’s like a salad. Chicken in it was delicious but when it’s in a salad, it’s a let down. We need a cooked noodle dish with this chicken. Coming to boba, they have a huge menu. Ordered taro and strawberry milk tea. Taro with the standard boba was good. Strawberry milk tea was okay but Lychee coconut jelly was too sweet, avoid this topping.
Second visit: We opted for Chicken Noodle Soup, House Fried Rice, Basil Eggplant, and Fried Chicken Wontons during our visit. The Fried Chicken Wontons were delicious and highly recommended. The Chicken Noodle Soup had its usual tasty flavor. The Basil Eggplant from the specialities menu was incredibly yummy, and we couldn't resist finishing it along with the accompanying rice. The House Fried Rice was decent, although it didn't quite match up to the deliciousness of the basil eggplant. For beverages, we ordered Taro Milk Tea and Vanilla Latte Mocha Blast. The Taro Milk Tea was alright, but we particularly enjoyed the Mocha Blast, even though it had a slush-like consistency. After about an hour, it melted and became enjoyable to drink. We have become regular patrons of this restaurant whenever we...
Read moreI'm not overly familiar with Vietnamese cuisine, so I can't really comment if this was good or bad. We mainly chose this place because it had an entire menu section dedicated toward vegetarian/vegan food, and it was right next door to our hotel. We ordered noodles + vegetables, and spicy BBQ tofu. They were both fine. Nothing to get excited about, not hot or spicy, pretty middle of the road taste-wise. My favorite is Thai food and I like it pretty spicy, so compared to that, this was bland. But it didn't taste bad, that's for sure. It just wasn't up to my usual level of flavor, which in my opinion Thai food is very flavorful. Any other Asian cuisine besides Thai generally tastes bland to me, so that's my yardstick. I give it four stars because of the extensive section dedicated to vegetarian/vegan items. That's my number one concern when choosing a restaurant. The only weird thing about this place is the booth we were sitting in. See the photo, and check out the pole that is inside the booth, not allowing you to sit close to the table. The pole prevents the seat from being close to the table, so you kind of have to sit on the edge of the seat once you start eating. Plus you can't enter the booth from the left side, the pole blocks you from sitting down on that side. Just a bit strange; I've never encountered a restaurant with that...
