This was actually my first time taking my kids on a family trip, & we were so excited to be visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Decided to book at this hotel after reading the good reviews, as well as how nice the rooms looked on the choice hotels website, and along with the distance it was from the aquarium. I too am a choice employee, & I was so eager to see how well this hotel maintained.
My first impressions, the hotel looked very pretty and cozy along with all the flower pots outside. The front desk who checked me in, "Madison" was very friendly and greeted me right away. Before I checked in, I asked to see my room type before I made a payment and she gladly allowed me to check out the room first.
After settling in room 186, I was so amazed at how pretty the room was, the beds were so comfortable, and the room were spacious .The only downfall was that there wasn't any shampoo/or soap in the bathroom, the comforters and sheets had little bits of stains on them here and there but its understandable that not all stains will come off since everything is white.
I loved how our room was secluded in the back with a nice view, not only that but we got to see three beautiful deers down below where our patio was. It was amazing!
Now the breakfast room was so pretty and mondern, lots of breakfast to choose from. The hot breakfast was so delicious, the eggs, the sasages, the waffles were so buttery and delicious! You have to try the waffles! The juice was good, the coffee, and the pastries. The cafeteria lady "Patrica" was such a sweetheart, she has amazing customer service! She greeted us right away and helped show us how to use the waffle maker, checked on each guest, and she refilled everything right away. She was basically on top of everything that was going on during breakfast time, and she even offer to toss our trash away instead of us doing it ourselves.
So during checkout, there was a man working front desk who checked me out and I think he may have been the GM since on my emailed receipt it said "gm.ca447" he didn't smile or asked how my stay was, but he did comprehend when I told him about the bedding having minor stains on it since I didn't want to be charged for anything already damaged.
Lastly, the restaurant "Chop Stix" next to the hotel was vietnamese food, we tried to eat there for dinner and wow they were so RUDE! When we walked in they had a full house, took one look at us, a party of 8, they never once greeted or asked us if we wanted to dine in/ or to go. We stood there like dummys for about 10 minutes, without no one speaking a word to us, I even walked over to the register and picked up a menu to look at to see if they will talk to me. We eventually decided to find somewhere else to eat and we found a chinese restaurant "Chef Lees Mandarin House" on Fremont st, It was delicious!
Overall my stay there at the Comfort Inn by the Sea was GREAT! Five stars!!! We will be staying here again the next time we decide to come out to Monterey again. You wont be disappointed...
Read moreOur stay was from 11/25-11/26. My husband and I chose to stay at this hotel for our 22nd anniversary because it had a jacuzzi in the room as many of the other hotels have it outside of the rooms. That was the main reason we chose this hotel, we wish now that we had just gone to another hotel all together. We checked in at 3:30 to find that our room was not ready. As we walked towards our room we noticed that the door was propped open and the AC was going and windows were open. We thought that to be odd but entered the room anyway where we found a floor fan running at high speed as well. To our dismay we saw that the room had not been cleaned, dirty towels everywhere, opened soap wrappers were by the jacuzzi and in the bathroom where there were used soap bars and the trash bins had not been emptied either. I immediately called the front desk and spoke with (I think it was Hailey) and she sent (I think his name was Winston) to check out the room. When he got there he looks around and said that housekeeping had not gotten to our room because apparently they had to re-tile some of the tile around the jacuzzi because the previous guests had had some wild party and broken several tiles and they had to shampoo the carpet in room as well and that was the reason for the fan being in there and the AC turned on...they were hoping to have the carpet dried in time for our check in, IT HAD NOT, which we hadn't realized at the time only once we had taken off our shoes did we realize that the carpet was still damp! He said he would get housekeeping to come to our room right away, which never happened. I had to go to the front desk at 4:45 to see what the hold up was and again speaking with Hailey, because we had dinner reservations at 5:30 at Sardine Factory and we needed to freshen up after our long drive! Coincidentally, as we walked back there housekeeping had just gotten there as well. We didn't get to freshen up like we wanted to because housekeeping didn't get done in time so we tried to change our reservations but they were all booked for the following evening so we reluctantly went on with our dinner plans. The next day we left early and didn't get back til later that evening where we found that housekeeping had not changed our towels or changed the sheets or emptied the trash bins, I called the front desk and the man who answered said that several of the guests had complained about the same thing that evening, it seemed like housekeeping had done a half ass job. Upon our check out I had asked Hailey about getting some type compensation for the late check in on their behalf but she had stated that there would be no discount. I was really disappointed because for the amount of money we dished out for that room, there should've been no delay in anything. We paid top dollar for no top service. And whatever you do stay away from the eggs at the breakfast buffet, they are watered down! Will not be...
