I went today for the first time and the lady that was at the counter taken orders was completely hateful acting. She just seemed like she didn’t wanna be bothered. The food is good but extremely overpriced for the serving anount(s) that they gave. I paid $40.00 for a small order of sesame chicken and shrimp lo mein with one egg roll!! $40.00-!!! I’ve been to plenty other Chinese restaurants and I have never paid that much for such little food. The noodles didn’t even come close to filling up the spaces in the food box!! & for $40.-!! Plus I had to deal with a horrible smelling business. Smelt like spoiled rotten dead fish. I have never smelt something so bad before in my life!! They sale live crawfish that they keep smothered in a bag with no space whatsoever to move around. Stuffed ALIVE in a cooler!!!!! Something you’d keep ice and drinks in!! Just soo cruel and inhumane!! I understand they are saleing them to be eating but cheap grocery stores don’t even keep their live food like that. It’s just wrong. And very inhumane and cruel. I won’t ever go there again. Never. They had these poor crawfish that are alive smushed together ontop of one another like sardines in a tied up bag on top of another bag of DEAD CRAWFISH. BOTH BAGS SMUSHED TOGETHER IN A DRINK COOLER CONTAINER!! The smell was beyond awful. I felt bad for them. Rather they are being sold to be eaten or not they are still alive and should be treated as such. The smell was like something dead and rotting. The smell was soo bad that my son was covering his face and begun crying!! He was crying from how bad the atmosphere was. I won’t ever go there again and I definitely won’t recommend them. The lady at the counter also doesn’t seem to like young toddlers either. She didn’t even seem to like her own self much less!! I have never been to a place so awful before in my life. This place really needs to be raided by the health department and animal control. No joke!! & I will be...
Read moreI recently visited Mr. Chen's , hoping to enjoy some Chinese cuisine, but left feeling more than a little disappointed. For our meal, we ordered the fried pork, squid with rice, and Lo Mein. The Lo Mein was unfortunately oversalted and, to make matters worse, the squid pieces had a foul smell, raising some concerns about freshness. When the lady who took our order (likely the owner or manager) asked how the food was, I simply replied that it was fine, not wanting to complain at that moment.
The bill, including a slush drink, came to around $39, which felt overpriced for the portions and the quality of food. Given our dissatisfaction, we opted not to leave a tip, which is rare for us but felt appropriate based on this experience.
However, our night didn’t end there. As we wandered into the grocery section afterward, the same lady approached us, asking if we had "forgotten" to leave a tip. When we explained our reasoning, she became visibly upset and started raising her voice. She insisted that it wasn’t her problem if the food was bad and argued that we should tip her regardless for “service.” Oddly enough, she wasn’t even the one who served us at the table. There was another lady who served our food. She even went so far as to suggest that we should have opted for take-out if we didn’t plan to tip.
This level of confrontation and demand for tips felt extremely unprofessional, especially coming from someone who seemed to be in a managerial or ownership position. Generally, I appreciate good service and am more than willing to tip, but this experience was a low point. No wonder, there were barely any customers at that time. Unfortunately, I can't recommend Mr. Chen's restaurant at Atlanta Hwy based on the combination of poor food quality, high prices, and an...
Read moreI normally get the Mongolian Beef because it tastes like fire. I like the taste of beef and fire in my mouth. Very satisfying. They have it on the lunch menu. Very convenient. Try some. You can get lunch with hot and sour soup, or egg drop. Mr. Chen’s is the only place where the hot and sour tastes good. I get it every time. If you want a pro tip, save a little for when you’ve finished your beef and have some rice left. Dump the rice in the soup for some drench rice. But recently I found a new thing. They have a seafood hot and sour soup. It comes in a really big bowl with a ladle, and they give you a normal sized bowl to eat it from. Ladle up! It’s the regular hot and sour (which is already the best I’ve had) with some shrimp and the fake crab meat. It works.
This thing is pretty big. It’s bigger than it looks in this picture. You get several bowls of soup from it. Enough to share, unless I’m there. Then it’s enough for me. Get your own. It’s pretty hot fahrenhostically as well as a little bit scovalently. Save the shrimp for last because they retain heat and you can burn your mouth. If you’re kinda in the mood for pho buy you don’t want all those noodles, this will hit the same way. It’s very very good on a cold day or when your nose is stuffed up. You’ll feel alive again.
And of course the place has a huge market/gift shop where you can buy all sorts of interesting things. It’s like a Chinese Cracker Barrel...
