First off got there when it was almost empty (2 tables). Told to sit where I want, so i sat in a dirty booth. The other booths had dishes on them. They cleaned it and I waited 10 minutes for a server. Server asked what I'd like to drink. I said lemon water and she started to run off. I told her I was ready to order as well. I ordered mushroom soup, octopus sushi, and gyoza for an appetizer. I ordered 1 entree to go, and 1 entree at the table. She asked if I wanted the appetizers first, and I told her whatever is fastest. So she came back with my water and soup. No lemon in the water, and no silverware for the soup. I asked for a spoon and 8 minutes later she came back with one... then she gave me gyoza which were good. Then she delivered my octopus sushi. (All separate from each other). I ate that and started a timer after I was done as I was skeptical of the service. She came back about 15 minutes later and gave me another order of gyoza that was for another table, which I corrected her on. She kept telling me my food was coming up right now. After waiting for 30 minutes after finishing my appetizer I got up and waited at the counter, asking to take my meal to go now. It still took a while, and I was charged full price on everything. No attempt to make it right. I watched several large tables come after me, get served, and finish there meals before I even got my entree. Only reason for 2 stars was the food deserved...
Read moreI'm visiting Monticello for work from the Seattle area. I love sushi and my favorite joint back home has been closed for reno, so when looking for dinner tonight and finding Asian Cafe I was happy but hesitant... first, my experience with places not named specifically for sushi hasn't been great, and second, because we obviously have great access to great seafood back home... but I tried it out. I was more than pleasantly surprised. The variety of sushi options available, rolls and otherwise, was astounding. Gotta be like 50 rolls alone on the menu... I had the Lady Gaga and the Rock n Roll, both were fantastic. The quality of the fish showed me the simpler rolls would also be delicious. If one thing on the food was to question, perhaps the freshness of the ginger. It seemed to have lost some flavor intensity. Service was pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. My server, Lyvia, had a great vibe about her and added to the atmosphere of the place. The restaurant is clean and well-kept, an exemplar of simple, if generic, restaurant interior that says "We serve Asian food here." But it is clean and the service and sushi bar being in view add to the atmosphere. The entry area could be reorganized to make more room for what feels like a thriving carryout business. All in all, great food, great service, and a friendly and clean environment. Will go again if business keeps me here...
Read moreI have been getting take out from this place for as long as they have operated in Monticello, at least 10 years. There food is awesome!!!
Last night we decided to try dining in. It was busy we had to wait for a table to be cleaned, not a major deal on a Saturday night. We were seated at our table then the group that showed up 10 minutes after us was seated, they arrived just as the tables were cleaned. Our waitress waited on that table first and she knew we had been waiting longer. The food arrived and was awesome as always. As we were finishing our meal the owner/ manager did stop by the table and thanked us for coming in 😁 as she did to all the tables. When it was time to pay the bill our waitress who hadn't been very attentive to us drops off the bill and said we need to pay up front, which I found frustrating as everyone else in the restaurant was paying at the table 🤔. We go up to pay, our waitress drops off 2 other tables checks at the cashier. At that point I debated on tipping her anything. Due to the owner stopping and chatting I didn't totally stiff her. The cashier had a bit of an attitude everytime we interacted with...
