Okay, let's get down to the point. I come here for the green bean casserole. I actually don't live here in Mooresville, but I visit fairly regularly. I love that they have green bean casserole on the menu and it is consistently delicious.
The last time I was in town, my family of four joined our two friends at this restaurant for lunch. I am a type 1 diabetic, so I eat low carb. This restaurant is a little bit difficult to eat from for example, I wanted to get barbecue without the bread and all the sauce. However, the sauce is pre-mixed in with the meat, and it's pretty saucy. I opted for brisket instead. It was flavorful without being drenched in sauce. Of course I got the delicious green bean casserole to go with it.
Despite being low carb, I have a major weakness for hush puppies I like most hush puppies, including the ones at cookout. I was not a fan of these hush puppies. They did not have any sweet flavor to them. I also prefer beer battered onion rings, which are difficult to find at restaurants nowadays. These had the right flavor, but it seemed like they were overcooked. This made it easy for me to resist them. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his banana pudding. I can't remember what my teenagers ordered, but they enjoyed their food. I did sneak a fry, and it was quite yummy.
We ordered at the counter and sat down. They brought our food to us and got the correct food to the correct people. The portion sizes were good, and we all left feeling very full. Several of us did not finish all of our food.
The atmosphere is totally barbecue, complete with red checked tablecloths. The chairs were those folding metal chairs, which I really wasn't a fan of. The way they have them situated side by side at long tables puts you really close to the other members of your party. This makes me feel like I'm at a church dinner, as opposed to being at...
Read moreY'ALL! I've lived in Mooresville for almost 3 years. Our first home was up Brawley School and didnt make it "downtown" much. And the restaurant choices are endless. We moved to Curtis Pond last year and attended the downtown Halloween trick or treating this year where I first noticed Big Tinys. Mental note: come back to big tinys 🤣 As I was struggling to decide on dinner I saw a Facebook post where folks were raving about the food here so I did what any person would do and i put my toddler in the car and drove to see what the hype was all about.
BIG TINYS does NOT disappoint! We HAD to try a couple meats and several sides to get the full experience. The Turkey and pulled pork were Cooked to Perfection. And the homemade sides (mac&cheese, cream corn, and green bean casserole) were better than any great aunts Thanksgiving recipe you've had in your entire LIFETIME. We all know a good ole down south meal is NOT complete without dessert. Dont have room? Better unbutton that top button of your Jeans (maybe 2) cause' you're gonna wanna lick the banana pudding bowl. Freaking delicious.
And if you've read this far into my review you need to make sure you hear the rest. The food is not the only amazing thing about big tinys bbq. The PEOPLE that work there are absolutely AMAZING. Not one face that wasnt warm and friendly. Every. SINGLE. employee worked hard to make sure we were accommodated. From the first interaction to heading out the door I knew they appreciated our business and genuinely hoped to see us again.
Needless to say we will be PROUD regulars. I highly encourage you and your family not to miss the opportunity to eat this mouth watering food and enjoy the company of the great folks that work there. Dont forget to check out their story and photos of "BIG TINY" their...
Read moreBig Tiny's is okay. The brisket had a good flavor but was dry for my tastes. It was missing that tender outer layer that's necessary for keeping the entire roast moist. Fortunately, the sauces are good so drowning it in sauce was an acceptable compromise. The potato salad was commercially supplied and we were offered plain white bread at no additional charge. There were additional toppings available at no charge including onions, jalapeno's and pickles.
Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but not worth the price. That's not to say that the food is necessarily overpriced, but that the pricing structure just feels weird and doesn't leave you feeling like you got the "bang for buck" like most BBQ places do. The meat is priced by the pound and the sides are charged separately, as well as the drinks. There's no purchasing a "meal" and there's no discount for "combos". While I was full at the end of the meal, I didn't feel satisfied.
Restaurant psychology is real, especially in a place where you order at a counter and seat yourself. Big Tiny's really should implement a "meal" where you get a 1/4 pound of meat, one side, and a fountain drink for $8.99. 1/2 pound for $10.99. Otherwise, customers are really going to question why they're paying $2.50 for a small serving of commercial quality potato salad. Replace the plain white bread with a choice of corn bread or even hush puppies and then you're...
