Let me start by saying that while in the military I lived in San Diego, a culinary capital. So when I write about this display of Mexican food, I have a bit of backing. I write this not only as a review, but professional critique.
Let’s start with the margaritas - Nice size, little to no tequila. For a $8.99 house marg, at least let me get a taste of tequila. My wife’s mango margarita also had little to no alcohol. You could charge more for a better product.
I ordered the “Mexican wings” & Burrito Tapatio and my wife ordered the Taco Loco Salad - First off, if you’re going to label your chicken wings as “Mexican wings” make them ‘Mexican.’ These were nothing more than fried chicken wings with Tapatio haphazardly squirted over top. Not even fully coated. Also, I could taste that your fry oil needs to be changed. Off the top of my head I can think of at least 2 or 3 seasoning blends you should incorporate and the wings should be grilled, not fried….Next, my Burrito Tapatio - it was decent but bland. The meat was well prepared and the burrito was appropriately sized. I’m personally not a fan of the pinto beans, but to his their own. I think refried would have added a nicer texture to the carnitas & grilled veggies. Also, if you’re going to incorporate the name of a hot sauce, then give it a little heat. My only real complaint is that for the price, this should be served with rice & beans. Not just lettuce and morsel of guac. My wife’s salad was pretty dismal. Pretty much chopped romaine, chicken, and dressing in a taco bowl that needed to be cooked longer. I had a few bites, was not impressed. My kids ACP was decent. Can’t really screw up chicken, rice, and queso. Chips and salsa were good, also hard to screw up.
The venue is pretty cool and something out of ordinary. Clean and welcoming.
My last point goes for a majority of the Mexican joints here in Mooresville. Stop disrespecting the California burrito. This is an elite burrito when done right. A quick google search would show that a proper California is carne asada, french fries, guacamole, pico de gallo, and cheese. What you’re serving isn’t even remotely close and that’s consistent with every Mexican place around Mooresville, minus Burrito Loco, they’ve got it right.
The service was accommodating and efficient.
In a pinch I could see this being a decent lunch spot. But it DEFINITELY is not the best Mexican...
Read moreAfter a lot of times trying this place and making excuses for their lack of service and quality I’m going to express myself, I went to dine in a few times and the service most of the time were poor, they took too long to take my order, that day a customer came after me (a white person) they took their order first and after 30 min they took mine (the other people that came after me was already eating when they took my order) as a Mexican I feel disgusted with that behavior (In my country we call them malinches) I left a note to the waitress about how bad her service was and that she need to do better because she never refill one time my glass or even going to my table to give me my check or ask if everything was good, I heard one time one of the waitress saying that she doesn’t want to take an order from those “Indios “ (Hispanic ppl just like us and no good to talk that way about others ), on a different day going there I order a fish and one side of the fish was all burnt, literally was inedible, I stopped for a while going there and a few days ago I decide to give a try one more time hoping this time were different but no, I order for takeout 2 carnitas plate (comes with rice, beans and salad) one of the containers was fine but the other one it looks like they forgot to fill the plate because it was just 1 scoop of rice and some beans with the salad, you could notice the difference between both plates, my daughter had “chicken “ nuggets and fries, the “nuggets” was cut on pieces and it was 7 pieces, all burnt, really greasy and really hard to eat, just disgusting… there’s no way I could feed my daughter with that, not even my dogs . Last thing I noticed was that they charge you a fee to order (charged me 2 times ) and then they’re expecting me to give $7 tip? I would never come back for sure after this.
Some ppl might think why I gave so many chances, well… I did it because I like to support small business and I know the owners are Mexican and as a Mexican I like to support my people, but the waitress attitude are just deplorable, the food quality is poor, I been working on restaurants for years and I would never serve to people food like that, so kitchen staff and FOH you need to do better because that is just a prove that you don’t give a damn about your job (that you’re being paid for )...
Read moreGiven strong ratings and things we've heard from friends, maybe we experienced an off night. There were open tables when we arrived but it took 10-15 min for someone to come seat us (should have left as that was a good indication). By the time we got seated there were 4-5 other parties waiting behind us. Everyone got seated at about the same time but then all the other parties that came in after us got waited on first. We were there 25 min before we had a drink served which doesn't sound like a lot unless you're sitting there getting zero attention like we were. Then we finally got orders in and dip came out pretty quickly but it was runny cheese with ground beef (Mi Veracruz dip). Not good. Then my fajitas came out but they brought just the hot plate with the meat and no sides and my wife's dinner hadn't come out. Probably 4-5 min before the rest of the food came out. Fajita chicken was bland. Decent quality meat and good quantity but just a little bland. Also their sides of sour cream and guac were barely a spoonful each. Maybe good for one fajita. Wife's chimichanga was very average too. Disappointing as we were trying something new and excited about the reviews and the cool enviornment (had to have been a church at some point) but we won't be back. Too many other good mexican places around to give it...
