A well-known drive in type place in Mooresville, NC. Where you drive up and speak into a system a d someone comes in and takes your order. I probably had not been here in over 10 years. Since I was in the area, I thought I would go by. I ordered a "What-a- Cheeseburger" with the standard condiments that it comes with - mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup) with a tiny pickle on the top of the bun I also ordered the large size of potato rounds and medium-sized ice tea. It took a bit to get the food. The little lady delivered the food to the car next to me first, and spent a minute or two with then (she had brought both of our orders on a tray out together) I don't know what they ordered but there order was placed at least several minutes after mine. When I did get my food, it was warm but not hot. The same for the potato rounds. I felt the portion was small (I asked for a large size), and when I questioned her about it, she said that it was large and it should have about 20 tater rounds in it. It did, but I felt it was rather small for almost being $4.00. Anyway, the food was alright. The next time I go, I will ask foe a "hot burger"! The service was fine though!

I’m from California & this was my first time ever visiting or seeing a What-A-Burger - I did some research prior to eating here. I was originally drawn in by their retro design- it’s all original from 1965 when they first opened- although this location is privately owned (not part of the chain any longer). You eat in your car and order through a little intercom system. They have a special drink here called the ‘witchdoctor’ which has every soda they offer mixed together with pickle slices and a lemon slice- it was interesting to try for sure. We also had a cheeseburger and a what-a-burger cheeseburger and tater rounds. Everything was good besides the tater rounds. They were cold and tasted like the frozen ones. It took 50 minutes from ordering to receive our food but we think it was because there was only one food runner- she was friendly though. Other customers were upset because it was taking so long to receive their meals and also it seemed like quite a few people had received the incorrect meal. Luckily we didn’t have anywhere to rush to be so we didn’t mind the long wait.

I have lived in Mooresville since 2017 and I had never tried this place till last month. I wish I had tried it sooner. It’s just good diner food (burgers fries, chicken tenders, etc) for a reasonable price with the upside that you can order from your car if you don’t want to deal with people today. And now they are open for breakfast! Google hasn’t updated their hours but I think the sign said they are open at 7 am for breakfast now. Country fried steak sandwiches, bacon, sausage, eggs, etc. Again just good diner breakfast food for a reasonable price and they have liver mush if you’re into that kind of thing. Not sure if they do the drive up service at breakfast or not but I have noticed at lunch that all the veteran customers go inside so you might get faster service that way. Anyways, if you like fish I thought their fish sandwich at lunch was pretty good (it comes with tar-tar sauce and slaw) and I really enjoyed the steak sandwich for breakfast (you can get it with eggs as well I believe, but I just got it with tomato lettuce and mayo).

Took about 20 minutes only to learn they missed 2 things on the order. And then chose to argue from behind the counter, until a waitress finally came out to figure out they made left out part of the order, then argued some more about not charging for the food they missed, then after BBQ was dry, burger was burnt, one of their workers decided to threaten to call police because we had 4 dogs in the bed of a truck that was mostly covered for shade and had food and water for them to keep cool. Outside dogs, with covered flooring and basically no diff than a dog house. One of the cooks, rather than act like a professional and talk to us about the "customer concern" about the dogs, decided to make the aggressive announcement and threat to call the cops, in front of the entire establishment. Said the customer was giving 5 minutes to get the dogs taken care of. It was clearly just in retaliation from the order complaint. Tried to feed the horrible food to dogs and dogs didn't even eat it, so he threw it on the ground in the parking lot. Parking lot has one way in, one way out, but the workers had the only lane to pull through blocked with a cone and employee car. Had it not been blocked, there was several better shaded places for the dogs, even though it wasn't really needed on a Sept day with cover. Truck was traveling out of state and dinner was last stop before the road. What-a-Waste of money and insult to the brand. Almost the entire staff was rude and several other customers witnessed and commented the same observations. Local loyals are the only thing keeping them open for nostalgia but their days are numbered...

Stopped in here to eat supper Friday night after shopping @ the Mooresville Antique mall. My husband used to eat at What-A-Burger years ago (at other locations) and we saw this one and were excited to try it. We parked at one of the speakers and all we heard was a muffled sound. Never could understand anything they were saying. So we pulled up and parked and went inside to eat. We ordered and my husband wanted a apple turnover for dessert which they were out of. To be a "retro" style burger place - the workers all seemed like they were miserable working there. Everyone had on dirty clothes like they slept in them, one girl had on pajama pants. The whole place seemed sad and dirty. Our burgers were just so-so - nothing great. Just a small amount of fries that looked like they'd been sitting out for a while. While we were eating the one lady that was operating the outside speakers was screaming to the people outside which obviously couldn't hear anything but she kept screaming "take your order" over and over. SOOOOOO rude sounding like she was about to start cussing them out. Of all the places we could have chosen we thought this would be a fun meal from my husbands past experiences eating here but we were highly disappointed. We won't be back. Cool sign outside though - that was about the only thing...
