My visit to Beenie's on Saturday could not have been any more pleasant had we not been in the midst (or should I say--crossed fingers--tail end) of a Covid quarantine. I decided to take the train over from Summit to check the culinary pulse and climate of Morristown as compared to Summit and boy what a scene it was. Sidewalk dining was alive. I was sad to see a few of my favorites either closed or relocated due to the big "Project" about to commence in Morristown. But now. Now is the time to reinvigorate our local businesses with our love and patronage. It seems like everything was open and I was excited to see this. Now I have passed Beenie's on numerous occasions, being that Century 21 is my favorite place to shop. So coming up from the train station, I have always passed this creamery but never stopped in. I guess it is because I usually do not shop much for clothes in the summer because it is too hot to wear any. But during the fall when I need clothes for my job I am all up in C21. But we are here to review Beenie's so let me stay focused. They had a four person limit in the store and everyone was doing their part to obey this request. When I entered I looked over the menu board. I was greeted by a friendly worker named Paul and he also was the one to serve me. I decided on a 16 oz milkshake which allowed me to choose three flavors or three scoops. I had chocolate lovers, which had fudge ripple and Callebaut Dark Chocolate chunks, cookies and cream (more on that flavor later!), and vanilla beenie. I added two extra pumps of chocolate syrup because simply put, I love chocolate. Paul crafted a perfect milkshake. It was thee best milkshake I have ever had. The chocolate lovers contained Belgium's premium chocolate Callemut, which quite simply is the best chocolate in the world. I am sure if I did not include the two pumps of chocolate syrup I still would have had a nice chocolate overdose. The cookies and cream was not fully appreciated until I came to the end of the milkshake. In the bottom of my container were the largest cookie and cream chunks I have ever seen. Not sweet but like an oreos bigger brother with smooth sweet white cream. The website says it all: They have raised the bar on cookies and cream. You will have to try it to believe it. The selection was bananas!! Literally! Banana cream pie, birthday cake, cinnamon toast crunch, Columbian coffee, cotton candy and tons more! They also had dairy free treats and sorbets. Paul you are a patient and diligent worker and I appreciate you taking the time to make me the perfect shake. I will be taking the train from Summit to Morristown the next time I...
Read moreWe have often been to Beenies and lately I’ve found it odd that there is no hand sanitizer at the register so you could clean your hands before taking the ice cream. I am writing this full review now so people don’t get surprised as my family was yesterday. Mask wearing is optional at the store, an “honor system” for the vaccinated. So in practice no or very few customers wear masks. The store is small and yesterday there were close to 20 people inside. There is no social distancing. Children under the age of 13 were there, also without masks. This is review is to help people who might not want to be in a situation like that. The business says it is following CDC recommendations, but from May 2021 as far as public statements go. The CDC updated recommendations last month and now Morris County is listed as a place of high transmission of the Delta Variant. The combination of no hand sanitizer, no oversight and no mask wearing is a concern. Especially in a place that sells ice cream and where eating a cone means touching the food. People should make up their own minds about their safety. Just sharing as we were kind of stuck in there as so many people came in. Had we known the owners stance and views on the subject of food safety in these times, we could have made better decisions. To each their own, just to inform those who would like to keep their kids safe from the variant. Naturally I am disturbed by a business owner who would sell food enjoyed by kids without going to the highest standards (ie telling people to wear masks in a small store) as the variant comes. Am trying very hard not to let my visceral...
Read moreWe enjoyed a 6th birthday party here in the recently extended Beenies!
We’ve always loved this gorgeous little store and it’s been our ice cream shop in Morristown since we moved here in 2020. So when we were looking for something different for our little lady’s birthday we were so excited that the owners agreed to let us hold the party there! We were fortunate enough to be the Guinea pigs for this space and experience! Every kid and adult got a huge ice cream and they included coffee from dunkin for the parents! We had an absolute blast and the kids were suitably entertained for the whole time (we brought little games and had a Photo Booth!). Tony and his wife were so easy to deal with and went above and beyond including a kid friendly playlist that they put on for us. Since Covid we have been avoiding birthday parties but now that things are back to normality we wanted to enjoy a special time with our kids and her friends and Beenies was an amazing place to do it! If you are looking for a venue this is a great option-make sure you stop by and try the ice cream and see the space. You won’t be...
