Update**
My husband and I have not been back to a Shoney's since the bad experience a little over a year ago until tonight, 8/18/2023. We were hoping that within a year's time, things would be better. Well, I am happy to say that not only was the food and service better, it was remodeled! Ok, so some paint, clean walls, different pictures, and a nice waiting area may not be considered "remodeled", but in my book, it does! Cosmetic or not, it looks 100% better in the restaurant! We were greated by Robin who was also our waitress and she was great! Although we got the bar, she always came to our table to make sure we were OK, filled our drinks on time and even checked us out! Not only that, but the manager on duty, Jacob, was busting his tail to make sure the salad and hot bar looked spotless! He made sure there was plenty of food and it was hot! The ONLY thing was the chicken wings as they weren't as hot, but they were good! We left Shoney's of Morristown happy, full, and thankful and we will go back!!! Thank you, Jacob and Robin, for making this a great, belly- full, first time in a year visit! We'll be back!
Sincerely, Monica Ailshie
My husband and I have lived in Morristown all of our lives. We remember how Shoney's USED to be, all family style and cozy and great food! Restaurant was always full!. We go to Shoney's for the hot bar and keep saying to each other, "This time it will be better!" Sadly, it has not been better. We ate there Thursday night on 5-18 around 6 because we thought if we got there when supper time was, everything would be hot and fresh. The salad bar hardly ever disappoints, but the hot bar has disappointed us the last 5 trips. Last night, the fish tasted like it had been sitting out since lunch and not warm or hot. The meatballs were very cold and the only thing that was the least bit warm were the potatoes and gravy. I opted to order off the menu as I knew how the hot bar would be. Chicken tenders and onion rings shouldn't be a problem. The chicken looked like it was barely cooked, but the onion rings were good. Our waitress, Mikala, was nice and cordial, but there was a lady that I presumed was the manager kept walking around like she had absolutely nothing to do and kept going in the bar putting her elbows, arms all over the bar. She kept talking non business to the lady that was trying to put fresh hot food out (after we had been there an hour) and didn't act like she gave 2 whoops about anything but her conversation. Management has been an issue there for quite sometime and after last night, we will not go back to the Shoney's in Morristown. I had to talk a day off of work Friday my stomach was hurting me so badly! We did not talk to the manager or a manager because didn't think it would do any good A good manager, in my opinion, should always check the temperature of the food if it has not been switched out in an hour. I'm sure if the food inspector came there unannounced, that place would fail. I know it's hard to find people that want to work, but if Shoney's in Morristown wants to stay afloat, they need to find...

Well tried the third time recently in all my years are coming here. I tell you the last 2 years this company has went downhill in Morristown Tennessee. I was taken out to dinner tonight for my birthday by a friend of mine. We looked at the bar and we were told that it had breakfast on it. And the other side had dinner. So I asked the waitress I said where is the eggs or bacon? I told us that we would be able to order it from the kitchen. Okay so my friend and I ordered two eggs each they were brought out to a scramble we were told that we could not order sunny side up or over medium or anything like that. Just scrambled. And then I was told when I asked about if they have bacon I was told by a waitress yes you can have bacon done the way that you want it which I would like crispy. So I had an order brought out. While I was still eating my friend paid the check I went outside for some fresh air. Well I wasn't done eating. I waited over 20 minutes for the waitress to come back however they had sent her to another location. To wait on in the banquet room. When the waitress came up it was apparently the Manager and I asked for refills on the eggs & ordered bacon. I had gotten the breakfast bar. But was told I'd have to pay extra. And I asked why and no.response was given. I refuse to pay Extra for something that was part of my meal. Your manager Norma needs a lesson on Customer Service and Safety Food Inspection and Service. I have called corporate this makes the third time. IM Done you lost me as a customer!!!! If I ever do go to one that would be the dandridge store store is clean well supplied very well people that know how to appreciate to give a customer great customer service and make sure that the food is not mediocre or bad and not be made to pay extra that was for something that was already part of their order.
I couldn't Rate you again at a Zero on these reviews. Because apparently that's not an option on...

THE ATMOSPHERE: it was around 8p on a Friday... There were maybe 3 other tables sat when we arrived. we were sat directly beside one and behind another as if the 6 tables by the kitchen were all that were available. eventually they would seat 2 or 3 other parties in this section (occupying less than 1/4 of the dining room) before we left. a family of 2 adults and 3 or 4 very young children (old enough to walk around at the salad bar in your way, but too young to eat by themselves) were sat directly beside the salad bar. their chairs pushed out from the table to the point you had to squeeze between the chairs and salad bar.
THE STAFF: the restaurant was obviously understaffed, and struggling. it wasn't busy as far as customers, but there seemed to be ALOT going on behind the scene. our server was pretty attentive to us but you could tell she was preoccupied with something else. one employee was behind the hot bar pretty much the entire time we were there, and a second employee stood by the bar talking with the 1st. after our meal, we stood at the register for approximately 9 minutes before being acknowledged by a few different kitchen employees who seemed to eventually alert a cashier to our presence, who then emerged around 4 minutes later to cash us out.
THE FOOD: i ordered a Philly Cheese steak and a salad bar, i was more interested in the salad than the sandwich. it was merely ordered for tomorrow's lunch. but the salad bar was standard stuff. the lettuce seemed to have been called off the bench out of pity. and wasn't much to look at. i had my sandwich boxed to-go. When i ate it the following day i realized it was merely a whole steak (nicely cooked... very nicely done) not sliced diced nor shaved, atop a bed of lightly sauteed onions and peppers with a slice of cheese on top. it was very tasty and satisfying for lunch... but... WRONG on so many levels.
my companion ordered the buffet and ended up with undercooked fried chicken on her plate.
OVERALL: I got a salad and a sandwich for lunch tomorrow, but would have highly preferred hitting a drive through and...
