We need to point out at the start - this is a bar in spirit, with the confused menu of owners who need to back off.
Food ordered: Beer Mayberry Roll Singapore Noodles House Salad with Ginger Dressing Philly Cheesesteak
Starting off, the atmosphere matches a bar - and if you look at the first few photos and the name, you would expect a pub. This is not a pub… it’s a confused Asian-Tex Mex with just enough grill items to justify the “grill” in its name.
To note - the bar quality is great. Taps are kept stocked, lines are solid.
We got a sushi roll as an app and were blown away by the quality. Fresh, tight roll. Clean ingredients. Excellent flavor pair. The best part of the night.
Now - entrees -
The noodles were atrocious. Overcooked slop, no sauce, the only flavor is black pepper. Half the plate is cooked onions in various stages of cooked. The carrots are microwaved frozen carrots tossed on the plate as an afterthought. The meat was ordered rare and came three stages past well done. I wouldn’t feed that to my dog. They’re using Cantonese noodles, which are fairly hard to overcook but damn they found a way.
The salad it came with is an average American salad. The ginger dressing is GREAT - one note though. It’s a lemon ginger dressing. I found the lemon seed in the dressing container.
The cheesesteak was dry. As one of the only traditional pub dishes on the menu, I expected it to be knocked out of the park, and it wasn’t evening a wow.
Overall, the menu is unruly. Noting the multiple sushi and hibachi joints nearby, I would recommend a redo on the menu. There was no one here eating food - they were all drinking. A pub is needed in the area and they clearly have the clientele to support it. Cut the menu by 3/4. Reign in the vibes.
Or promote your sushi chef and cut...
Read moreWe went tonight with family to unwind after a death in the family. The hours on the door said they were open until 11. We asked why they l'ooked like they were closing?' He said 'We close at 9:30'. I pointed towards the hours on the door and he said 'The door is wrong, this is our off season'. Off season? Mt. Airy has an off season? Lol
The waitress was nice but very forgetful. We had to ask for most everything at least twice (a beer, extra napkins etc)
I ordered the Steak Tacos with sweet potato fries. She brought me Shrimp Tacos with regular fries. The waitress asked us how the checks would be when she was taking our order. None of the checks came out right. My food was not on our check and so I thought 'well, that was nice! They comped my meal since it was completly wrong.' I was wrong. They had put my meal on the wrong check.
She brings our ticket books back with our credit cards in them and looks at each one to make sure she hands them to the appropriate owner, she gave everyone's credit card, I mean EVERYONES credit card to the wrong person! It looked like a comedy show with everyone switching ticket books!
The icing on the cake was when one in our party asked for a beer. They refused. He said he had already closed his bar. We said 'Just bring a Coors light in a bottle and we will pay cash'. He refused.
My husband went to the bartender when we was leaving and complained about our visit. The bartender stood there with his chin on his mop handle and said 'I'm sorry you feel that way about your visit'.
We will not be back. There are too many good places to eat in Mt Airy to be...
Read moreUnexpected. That's one word to describe our lunch at Soho. We asked for a recommendation from a local for a good Asian restaurant. She sent us to Soho. So we were expecting Asian. The exterior signage didn't look Asian and neither did the decor inside. It is bright and open. Even on a cloudy day, there's lots of light. The staff was friendly, courteous and attentive. Our food was very good. My wife ordered the Soho Special Platter and I got the Chicken Fried Rice. The flavor profile of my chicken fried rice was not what I expected! The sauce for the chicken and vegetables was not typical at all. It was more reminiscent of comfort food than average Chinese sauces. It paired nicely with the shrimp sauce provided. Their shrimp sauce appears to be made in-house and gives the expected sweetness to a dish. I enjoyed my meal, as did my wife, thoroughly. With tip, our whole meal was around $22. We left satisfied. On the whole, I think we had a pleasant experience, in part, because they are breaking stereotypes of Chinese and Asian restaurants. It's really more accurate to say they're a fusion restaurant as they have cilantro and pico de gallo featured on the menu along with burgers. Not a typical anything here! If you like to follow the beat of a different drummer, check...
