Great atmosphere, but bland bland bland. If you love mexican food, this place is not for you. I wanted so bad to love it, but I couldn’t.
I give detailed reviews so here we go.
Atmosphere is lovely. It’s a small restaurant with a nice bar. Feels more like a bar than a restaurant honestly. Employees. They were all wonderful. HOWEVER….. Food. I was so disappointed I left in a bad mood. I have never met a taco I didn’t like until today.
First they charge $3 for a basket of “chips.” The “chips” have got to be from a Tostitos bag. I got mild salsa. Absolutely ZERO heat, zero seasoning. It was comparable to stewed tomatoes.
The tacos were beautifully plated, but a huge disappointment. The meat may have been slightly salted but other than that there were no traditional taco flavors, no seasoning, no heat. I don’t mean it was “lightly seasoned.” There was NO taco flavor to these tacos.
The refried beans were like soup. And the rice was bland.
I truly wanted to love this place, but I...
Read moreThe food was decent, except for the refried beans that looked like the water left when they strained the beans. There was no hint of a bean anywhere, just bean juice. It was an unappetizing sight, and I'm surprised a chef would plate such a mess.
The service could be better. When I asked our waitress what kind of beer "Pernicious" is, she said "I don't know" with a blank expression. I waited a few moments and finally had to say "Well, can you ask?" She had to take three whole steps to ask the bartender. Also, they screwed up our orders: I asked for corn tacos, my friend asked for flour, but they switched them.
Finally, the atmosphere is just not to my liking. It's one of those restaurants that likes to have loud acoustics so it sounds like everybody is having a good time. I'm sure many people like it, but I would prefer being able to hear my...
Read moreWe were downtown, just for the evening, after being on the road all day. We happened to score a parking space right in front of this restaurant. We looked at the menu and decided to go in. A margarita seemed in order. We ordered chips and salsa, a Caliente margarita, Barbacoa quesadilla, and grilled shrimp tacos. I agree with one of the other reviewer‘s. They need to select a better chip to go with their very good salsa. They need the thin lighter chips and they need to be heated. And if no change in the chips, please at least heat the ones you serve. Aside from that, dinner was delicious. It did seem like it took a lot longer than it should have to get our food, but when we got it, we were very pleased. The portions were generous, and the ingredients were nice and fresh. The margarita was also very good. Server...
