Flies EVERYWHERE. So disappointed.
It is a wonder the food inspector has not shut this place down. From the outside looking in - the desserts looked like they would be delicious. Once inside - every counter had HUNDREDS of flies hovering over the pies/desserts. 80% of the desserts are not covered and had flies swarming on and on top, it was appalling to look at.
This was my first visit to Mount Airy and I had marked Miss Angels Heavenly Pies on my list of places to grab dessert. It was my boyfriends birthday and before entering I told him to pick out a pie to take back home as a treat to finish off our trip. When we walked in it only took a few seconds to see the swarms of flies underneath every single one of the displays. A tap on the glass sent hundreds of flies off of the desserts and up into the air.
Additionally- Despite fans running, the temperature within the store was at least 10-20 degrees hotter than outside (Fortunately, the weather outside was gorgeous - August 9th was high 70s). Two workers were towards the back of the store but never made eye contact with us despite both of us making remarks out load that there was a fly infestation. There was no way that they were unaware. Yet - nothing was being done. At the very least everything that was sitting out needed to be covered right away after baking. More so, the place needs to be 'bombed' for insects/pests and everything uncovered needs to be thrown out. I spent a total of 3 minutes in the store before becoming repulsed at 80% of the desserts in the store with flies resting and hovering around them. We left empty handed and vowed to never come back.
An establishment should never have a infestation this bad and still be...
Read moreI've been wanting cherry pie and made a detour to get some today.
We got carrot cake, a cherry crumb pie, a chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing and idk maybe Reese cups on it, and 2 "day old" cookie sandwiches. They're pretty big, 2 cookies with filling.
I'm being very honest, we will never go back. The cupcake was incredibly dry the whole way through. Box mix is better. Idk how you mess up a basic chocolate cake batter but without a doubt grocery store cupcakes are better. Unless they were old...and I have a feeling most of these items are "day old" but not priced as such.
Husband said his carrot cake was dry.
Daughter said the chocolate chip cookies on the cookie sandwich tasted bad and left a chalky aftertaste.
Then the cherry crumb. The crumb was OK. Had some sweetness to it. But the cherry pie was not sweet or flavorful. The cherry glaze or whatever it is was essentially like a gummy worm had been melted around the edges and gotten stiff again. Such a disappointment. Those cheap cherry hot pocket looking pies are better. What a waste of time and money.
Family is coming from out of town next week and Mayberry is one of our destinations. We will be skipping MissAngel's. There's just no way with so many other ppl saying very similar things to what I've said that they're not selling old products as fresh. Either that or they're allowing employees to ruin their recipes by making them wrong.
P.S. So many gnats!!! They're crawling on everything and they can't seem to get it under control but they have little traps everywhere. I was going to get an apple pie too but a gnat was living on it so I just got the cherry and tried to convince myself it hadn't been landed...
Read moreAs we started to browse inside this bakery, we noticed that besides a young man seated and eating a pastry, we were the only other customers inside, so a greeting from the person working there would have been nice. Not only were we not greeted or acknowledged in anyway, we were just watched, so it immediately made us feel very uncomfortable to say the least. In addition, we couldn't help but notice a couple Post-it notes stuck on the wall and around the counter basically saying to not even think of asking them where their items are baked. As a first-time, out-of-town customer, those post-it notes plus the zero greeting and cold stare cast in our direction were extremely off-putting. They genuinely made us feel bad, so why on Earth would we want to hand over our hard earned money to them? Nope, don't think so. Pretty pies don't mean you get to treat people poorly. Out the door we went.
What we want to tell this bakery: You should never make your customers feel uncomfortable!!!! Remove those post-it notes for Pete's sake and warmly greet your customers from now on. When a customer asks you that dreaded question, "are your items baked on premise?", don't take it as an insult, view it as an PR opportunity for your bakery. Give them a genuine smile and say "Why thank you for asking!!! We take great pride in the fact that all of our items are lovingly baked right here on our own premise with fruit grown from our own orchards! We hope we get to see you our orchards as well! Thank you for your business and have a great day."
This is basic customer service 101. A refresher course at this...
