Highland Street Cafe appears to be a house converted into a restaurant. It is a solid choice for homemade breakfast, offering traditional fluffy and delicious pancakes, omelettes, grits and breakfast burritos. We were seated immediately on a Friday morning, and our server was prompt and polite. Food came out quickly and the coffee was fresh. I got a breakfast sandwich with sausage on a biscuit. Although it wasn't bad - I'd recommend getting that on bread if I came back. The biscuit was so fluffy and soft, it probably wasn't meant to hold heavy, greasy sausage in between it. It surprisingly held together alright but toast would still have been a better option here. I think my husband's pancakes were the winner of our meal today. So, I'd recommend the pancake breakfast to someone visiting.

A step above other diners in the area. The small dining room means there's usually a short wait, especially if you have a party with more than four people as most of the seating is in booths. I wish they would add some outdoor dining, the street in front is a great area to explore. The food is your standard diner options. The Stuffed French Toast with Strawberries is one of the most popular items, it's good but really sweet. I prefer their biscuits and gravy with sausage patties. Also, the muffins are fantastic. The food is worth the short wait it usually takes to get a seat. My only issue is the dining room can feel cramped when every table is taken, they could really benefit from some dividers between tables or something to make it feel less like people are all around you.

We were hoping to find a nice local breakfast joint, but unfortunately this one is in need of a little love and attention inside the dining area. The decor is nothing but dog photos and things are quite a bit dingy. Sealings you really don't want to look up and their tables right up against the bathroom door for the men's room where they sat us. So everybody going in you could hear I'm going to the bathroom which is just really unappetizing. The French toast was two slices of Texas bread as they described with a layer of fruit cream cheese and and topping and then the whole thing is dipped in pancake batter and then deep fried. He was interesting but tasted like a donut. I had the footlong hot dog which was which was good, I would order it again if I were hungry enough.

Several friends and family have suggested this place and I'm really glad they did. Ordering was a tough decision as you watched all the yummy food come out the kitchen. I decided on an omelette with a side of toast and grits. Those grits were definitely made with love! Now I know why I saw a customer with a bowl of it. I wanted to try the stuffed french toast, so I'll definitely get that next time. I wish the location was larger. I felt like I was on the aisle seat of a plane as the servers and guest walked passed you. Other than that the service was great. Jonathan was super friendly. We'll definitely be back soon!

Arrived on a Monday at about 11:00am, was promptly seated by very kind staff. I went for the Philly cheesesteak—it wasn’t bad but also felt like it could’ve used a little more love. Meat felt under-seasoned however all the toppings and bread was delicious. The food came out very quickly. French fries were just shy of golden crispy, which made for a plate of floppy fries. With enough attention to detail, the restaurant can definitely improve taste wise. Otherwise, it’s your typical, cozy, down-home diner where you can expect an American diner breakfast. I will be back but will likely try something else. 👍🏻

Great breakfast place! Hot chocolate was delicious, not watered down, great and thick home made whipped cream. In my 14-year-old twins words: “Best hot chocolate we have had in a while”. The Strawberry stuffed French toast was fried, crispy and delectable! The sweetness of the strawberries, and the buttery goodness of the French toast truly complement each other. 10 out of 10! Pancakes and hash-browns were perfectly cooked. Hash-browns were crispy. The Trash Spanish breakfast plate very flavorful as well. A must if you are in the Mount Dora area!
