If you have a gluten sensitivity or allergy- stay away unless you want to be treated as an inconvenience.
I dined with my family and ordered a cheeseburger on a gluten free bun with coleslaw as my side. I've eaten here before and knew this meal was safe for me (I have non-celiac gluten sensitivity).
When the runner came to deliver food, I immediately noticed french fries on my plate (not safe, cooked in a shared gluten fryer) and asked the runner to confirm if the burger was on a gluten free bun (at this point, I'm thinking a mistake was made because of the fries being plated- it happens).
She comes back and confirms it is indeed the gluten free bun, however, I have to turn it away because of the fries (still on the plate) and let her know that I in fact ordered coleslaw, not fries.
The manager (or owner?) comes out and aggressively asks me "what part of fries has gluten?" I, the patron, had to explain the shared fryer situation (not a big deal, I do it quite often). After he processed that info, he then proceeded, with attitude, to inform me that it would take another 20 mins to re-make my meal. His tone was suggestive that I was inconveniencing him with my situation, so much so, that I actually told him not to worry, that I wouldn't be eating. He was escalating an issue that didn't need to be escalated. I even told him that I didn't want to make of big deal of it (re: the situation as a whole because he definitely was). After a nudge from my family to allow him to remake it, I accepted and he took it back to have it remade/re-plated.
Here's the kicker. When he comes back, he very much had the opportunity to deescalate the situation as a whole and recover like a rockstar, however, tells me: "I've un-glutened it for you" in the same snark attitude and never apologized for the initial mistake. At this point, I made the decision to never return to the establishment for 2 reasons. 1. I'm not sorry for having a gluten sensitivity and making sure the food I eat is safe when dining out. 2. There are other options in the Mt Dora area- wasting my time with an establishment that isn't willing or able to show they care about their patrons is unproductive.
Even if they had a crazy day from the Mt. Dora Arts Festive, this situation should have never occurred.
My experience today was unfortunate as I really enjoyed their cheeseburgers, however, will not be returning.
I hope they take this feedback to heart. Those of us with gluten allergies and sensitivities tend to be extremely loyal those restaurants that can safety accommodate us from a dietary and service...
Read moreMy wife and I went to mount Dora in search of a new home. On our way back home we happened upon this cool spot and decided to stop. The patio is nice, the area is super quiet and waitress was nice. We received our food and that’s when it became uncomfortable at best. I ordered the sausage sandwich and my wife the kids sliders with fries. The fries were safe to eat as well as the cucumber and tomato salad. I’m assuming the coke was safe to drink as well. The sausage in the sandwich looked good outside and very pink and undercooked inside. My wife’s kids sliders were so undercooked that you could see the slime inside the meat. I’ve been praying we don’t get sick since we ate the 2 bites each of the burger and sandwich before we discovered it wasn’t cooked properly or up to our standards aka so we aren’t eating raw pork and beef. I laughed and told my wife at least it isn’t chicken we may make it. I cut the sausage in half and carved all the raw meat out of the center to show the waitress who showed the owner. The owner proceeded to explain to me that sausage was cooked to his desired temperature. I then asked about my wife’s cold slimy kids slider and he didn’t have anything to say. I’m still impressed by the owner’s ignorance. I think I should have loaned him my glasses or he’s color blind. I’m pretty sure pink pork is not a good sign. I would recommend raising your desired temperature and cook it all the way. As far as the whatever it was in the kids slider I would recommend actually cooking it and maybe finding a beef product a little less slimy. You nailed the fries coke and tomato and cucumber salad. All in all we paid our bill in full and threw up what we could so we wouldn’t be to sick to take care of our children. Thanks for taking the time to treat me like an idiot today mr owner. I was so honored to be greeted by such an...
Read moreIf I could give this place TEN STARS, I would. My parents decided to dine here last night for their 57th wedding anniversary, which totally threw me off because they normally go to Ruth's Chris for their anniversary dinner. And every year, I call Ruth's Chris to order a bottle of champagne to have delivered to their table. I was fretting last night because I didn't know if this place would accommodate such a request. Well, they did - and not only were they so gracious about it, but the owner, Tim, even took the time to take a photo of my parents and text it to me. I can't thank them enough for that special care they gave to my parents. Aside from how gracious and accommodating they were, my mom wanted to be sure I stated how great their dinner was. My dad ordered the Ahi Tuna dinner and mom had the Tiger Shrimp dinner, and they said everything was cooked to perfection. This is a place they will DEFINITELY be going back to. And quite frankly, I'm looking forward to trying it myself. This is casual outdoor dining with great food and great people. My mom also wanted me to mention how great the outdoor misting/cooling feature they have is. I apologize if I butcher this description, but mom said it was like cooled water that flows from high above, creating a light mist that blows around to cool the air. I asked her if it was something that would cause a woman's hair to frizz (gotta be careful when you're on a date, after all), and she said absolutely not. It just really cooled things off nicely... you don't get wet or anything like that. It just creates cooler air movement, making outdoor dining that much more enjoyable. Don't hesitate to try this place! You won't be disappointed. Thank you all for taking such wonderful care of my parents on a very special...
