Bon Banh Mi Southeast Asian Kitchen — Restaurant in Mount Pleasant

My wife and I were very, very excited to try an authentically Vietnamese Bahn mi joint since moving to the area. We were so excited in fact that we brought a cooler in order to take back a few sandwiches with us.

Upon entering the establishment it smelled amazing and we were really looking forward to enjoying the food. I ordered the five spice pork bahn mi and my wife ordered a lemon grass chicken taco.

The French bread loaf that you expect to be crackling and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside was completely missing. Instead the bun was completely soft and soaked with the spiced mayonnaise that they slather all over it. The sandwich had a large roll of 5 spice pork down the middle. But it was tasteless and seriously under spiced. The vegetables were extremely meagre. Worst of all there was no fresh jalapeño. The fresh spice that you usually expect from authentic Vietnamese bahn mi was completely missing. The pickled daikon and other fresh herbs were also almost nonexistent.

My wife’s lemon grass chicken had no apparent lemongrass flavor. And the chicken was boiled not grilled. Again tasteless. The taco also was slathered with the space mayonnaise that they use. So much so that it was leaking out of the bottom.

We both have had very delicious, authentic bahn mi in various parts of the country. This should not be called Vietnamese, Asian fusion or even Asian inspired. It’s not even in...

So, this is the 3rd time in the last 2 weeks my wife Debbie and I have been to this place. The only reason I haven't posted a review and photos yet is because the food it so good that photos become an after thought once they bring the food out.

Located right on Coleman Blvd just before heading over to Sullivan's Island, this place checks all the boxes:

and the Customer Service..."Wow" The manager Michael and his staff are brilliant. Kelsey and Cameron make us feel at home every time we've been here. Love that they take the time and allow you to sample the awesome variety of draft beers until you find the perfect one 🙂 and there are many ✔️

Every time I leave this place a feel like I have a circus in my mouth. Their authentic food with the combination of their specialty hot sauces just take the experience to another level.

3 Thumbs Up and 5 Stars from my wife and I. Even our kids love it and they are picky eaters.

Oh, and they play oldies music, so it feels like date night every time we go there. Seriously, it just makes you forget about stress, life and puts you in a happy place. It's like a 50’s diner atmosphere with an Asian twist 🙂

We visited bon banh mi this afternoon and were blown away by the atmosphere, staff, and of course the food. The guy taking our order was SO helpful as well as another gentleman who gave us the rundown on their multitude of sauces and what pairs best with the dishes we had on our way. The kitchen staff was within eyesight of our table and even held conversation with us through the window making everything seem so much more personable than any other restaurant I've ever visited. We ordered the 5 spice pork banh mi, thai lemongrass chicken bowl, sweet and spicy pickles, and their wings. Everything was unbelievably tasty and the amount of time it took for us to get our food shouldn't even be considered as a wait(so fast!) I would've taken pictures, but I couldn't even wait to try everything. I've been to both locations and this one was definitely a favorite of mine. We will for sure...
