After specifically ordering a water-based matcha due to a dairy allergy, I was served a drink with a white swirl that looked like dairy. When I questioned it, the waitress assured me that it had been made with oat milk, so I drank some after she walked away. A minute later, the waitress returned to tell me that the matcha had been made with whole milk, and when I reiterated that I have an allergy and I had drunk some of it already, she told me she would inform the manager. The manager came out several minutes later and without making eye contact, set down a new drink, and just said “here’s your dairy-free drink,” with no apologies or acknowledgement and was about to walk away. When I expressed that I was very upset about the error, she looked at me and said, “Did you just come here to cause a problem?”. Needless to say, I was floored by her reply and told her so to which she accused me of being “mean.” I stated I obviously had a right to be upset and that this wasn’t the first time I was given the wrong order after specifically stating I have an allergy to which she replied “Really?”. Finally, she VERY SARCASTICALLY said “Well, I’m sorry,” and walked away.
A few minutes later, I approached the counter and asked the cashier for the manager’s and owner’s names, but the manager came back out and caused a scene with me in front of the staff and other customers.
I attempted to contact the owner 3 times before she called me back, only to give me a slew of excuses about the incident, her own delayed reply and the behavior of her manager, stating that the manager “was stressed out from a busy weekend.” There was no question or concern as to whether I had a reaction from ingesting the drink, nor was there a sincere apology. It is apparent the owner doesn’t really care and finds the manager’s egregious behavior excusable. I DO NOT. I have never been treated with such disrespect as a customer EVER, ANYWHERE. Although I was the victim here, somehow, I was the bad guy. The whole experience was utter craziness.
Others with allergies have left similar reviews of experiencing negligence regarding their orders and others, general rudeness.
I suggest patronizing the other restaurants on Beverly Rd instead that have delicious food and appreciate their customers, such as Mullett’s...
Read moreThe Mediterra is such a cute little bakery and restaurant. I love going with friends, family, my husband and our dog. It has indoor bar and table seating as well as outdoor seating, with umbrellas and heaters that allow dogs and even provide water bowls for them (so nice). To order, you head through a store front that is reminiscent of a small local store with wine, honey, crackers, preserves, jams, etc. Once you’re done battling the decision to buy the organic balsamic or to buy your friend the Pinot Noir perched on the shelf, you wrap around to a bakery counter. My. God. You will find happiness there. They have seasonal cakes, cookies, breads, and a croissant-muffin. The offer juices, kombucha, parfaits and granola to go cups that are so yummy. Once you rip your eyes from the bakery, you can see the menu. They have such good breakfast/brunch options and amazing lunch as well. It is on the pricier side, but the quality of the food is so amazing- I don’t mind. It is well worth the wait. I would highly recommend their coffees as well- the chai and cereal milk lattes are marvelous, both in flavor and aesthetic.
The pictures included are the house brined and roasted turkey sandwich with a vanilla latte, the milk bread French toast with the hot chai latte, and the breakfast of champions. They offer seasonal fruit for the French toast and for the coffees. Right now, they are doing cereal milk lattes, where each month, they soak cereal in milk overnight and make a latte out of...
Read moreBeautiful day and we were running some errands in the Mt. Lebanon area when the lunch hour struck so we decided to stop here and get some. Parking on Beverly Road is always a challenge but we managed. There were two outside tables available, but the signs on them asked you to order food first, before snagging on, so we went in – big mistake. By the time we ordered, both of those tables were taken be people who were pointedly ignoring the signs as another of their party was placing orders from them inside. Nonetheless, we found a table where people were just leaving, so we stacked their used dishes on one end and sat down.
Our two sandwiches were delivered pretty quickly and we dug in. I liked the Mushroom melt better than the Spanakopita. My companion preferred them in the other order. The sandwiches were large and so we did not finish them. They each came with two or three small slices of a sweet pickle and no other accompaniment. Since we could not even finish the sandwiches, that was a good thing. Prices are high when you consider that we only had sandwiches and ended up paying about $20 per person.
The other thing this location offers though is more interesting than the food. There is a specialty market and a bakery. You do not have to deal with rude people to shop the interesting cheeses, wines, olive oils, or breads that they make and can simply buy them and leave. If we go back, it will be for those specialties rather than the restaurant side...
