A taste of Mexico in the heart of Mt. Lebanon.
In a quiet corner of Mt. Lebanon/Dormont lies Panaderia Jazmin, an unassuming haven that is nothing short of a revelation for those fortunate enough to step through its doors. This establishment, a hybrid of bakery and eatery, achieves what few places can: an authentic celebration of Mexican culinary tradition, executed with precision and heart.
The interior is a model of thoughtful design, featuring an open, clean floor plan that radiates warmth and accessibility that is adorned in Mexican traditional decor. This is a self service bakery, but donât let that fool you this is no ordinary setup. Sliding glass shelves house a dazzling array of baked goods, each one a testament to the art of pastry. Trays and tongs are neatly stationed to the right as you enter, inviting you to curate your own personal journey through their offerings.
As you make your way towards the cash register at the front of the store youâll find more baked goods in a cooler case youâll find tres leches cake that is impossibly moist, arroz con leche that recalls the comforts of a family kitchen, flan with the perfect wobble, and a mil hojas that rivals anything you might find in Mexico Cityâs finest patisseries. These are not mere desserts they are edible masterpieces, crafted with a reverence for tradition and a flair for excellence.
A must have is the Mexican style coffee. I canât come up with a unique statement for this blissful cup of coffee other than itâs magical and it may have you rethinking what your favorite coffee really is.
But Panaderia Jazmin is more than a bakery it is a true eatery, with sit-down seating that invites you to gather and break bread with friends and family. Their menu is a love letter to traditional Mexican breakfast and brunch, each dish prepared with an authenticity that is increasingly rare in todayâs world. Whether youâre savoring enchiladas or indulging in huevos rancheros, every bite tells a story of heritage, flavor, and care. Personally I enjoyed huevos rancheros this flavorful dish really strikes home at the blue collar roots of the Mexican rancher who this hearty, flavor filled dish was intended for.
Panaderia Jazmin is the type of place that makes you forget the busy city and pending task at work, a space where the act of eating transforms into something deeply personal and profoundly satisfying. It is a reminder that the most extraordinary culinary experiences often arise from the most unpretentious settings.
For those who cherish food as art and tradition as inspiration, Panaderia Jazmin is not merely a recommendation it is a destination into Mexican...
Read moreFresh, wholesome, unprocessed ingredients prepared with authentic techniques producing extraordinary dishes made at this very special little cantina / bakery put it at the very top of my list for satisfying my Mexican food cravings. I've been throughout the Yucatan Peninsula many times and food served by Panaderia Jazmin is as authentic as you would find if you ordered it there.
The baked goods are wonderful and equally traditional in their appearance and flavor. I also have had their coffee (black) which was rich, flavorful and not the least bit bitter. Even the cappuccino was good, frothy and hot. Don't ever leave there with at least a couple Churros in hand. They are the best i have ever had.
The service is more like being invited to someone's home where you are treated like long lost family.
Every item i try is better than the last. The Tortilla soup is crazy good! The Enchiladas and different sauces wake your taste buds with unique, authentic flavors. Their Mole sauce is especially spectacular, while none of the items are too spicy (hot) for anyone. But if you do like a little heat, I highly recommend the Salsa Verde, it being bold but still with a sweetness and fruitiness that make it truly delightful. The Pochados a la Mexicana have to be tried at least once. The Sope (think of corn-flour pancake) has the perfect texture with crisp bottom and soft dough above then piled with superbly flavored shredded pork that hinted at carnitas, then covered by a perfectly cooked poached egg and pico de gallo. These alone are worth the trip, time and literally twice the cost, imho.
Small, unpretentious, super clean, super friendly and attentive service. After Two visits and tasting 7 items from the menu, I get the impression that they are fully committed to Consistency, Service and Quality.
Easily the best Mexican food i have...
Read moreUpdate from 10/29/24 - Had heard they expanded this place and opened a Mexican style restaurant in addition to the bakery. Decided to drive here and try it. My 75 year old mother and I decided to try a breakfast burrito. To summarize, it was 100% excellent! One of the best breakfast burritos I can remember eating as a 51 year old.. We also ordered a couple pastries, we ate 2, they were also super tasty. This place is now on my radar as a great Pittsburgh hidden gem restaurant. From my first meal here I would totally recommend trying it!
A brief update from December 2024 - I've stopped back during breakfast a few times since my original review. I've ordered the Breakfast Burrito each time and it was equally excellent every time.
Update from June 2025 - We decided to try lunch here. My companion and I split Falutas (Attached Picture) and a Strawberry, Blueberry Tart. To summarize 5 stars! Faluta was awesome! It had mild heat and was super tasty. I'll order this dish again. Tart was also excellent. Another great experience! I totally recommend this place!
Original review from 20/22. This place was only a bakery the time - Great Pittsburgh area bakery. Everything I have tried here has been very good. They have both traditional pastries and Authentic Mexican /South-Central American pastries. They have some bread products but the focus here seems to be mostly sweets and treats. If you are looking for a great local Pittsburgh bakery I would...
