August 2022: Visited Champy’s today for their Sunday Brunch and met Kiara at the front desk. She was a breath of fresh air…so welcoming, funny, and took me “all the way” across the restaurant to my booth (inside joke). Karol was my server and she took my drink and let me look over the menu. I decided on the breakfast burrito and Karol recommended the potato casserole and I went with it. This burrito is HUGE and is wrapped around two of their chicken tenders with egg & cheese…with a little salsa a very filling breakfast. I even added some of the potato casserole to the burrito…it works! Overall a delicious meal and great service from Karol and Kiara!
July 2020: Was really craving some fried chicken…and my truck mysteriously brought me to Champy’s. I’ve dined here a number of times sampling various dishes but my favorite is the fried chicken. Tonight I started with a few Hot Tamales and they were delicious. Love the flavors they have wrapped in those corn husks and there is just enough spice to give you a sniffle. The fried chicken and I opted for mashed potatoes and gravy were delicious. The crust was crispy but the meat underneath was very moist and juicy. Overall…another delicious dinner at Champy’s!
2017: It’s not too often I’ll use the word “BEST” when I eat at a place for the first time…but in this case…I just had the BEST Dang Fried Chicken that has had the opportunity to cross these lips!!! Went to Champy’s today, called ahead and they weren’t opening till 4pm but they told me to “come on down” anyway. I arrive and the place is pretty empty except for all the hustle and bustle of the staff putting the finishing touches on everything and stocking beer. But I was warmly welcomed and a bit hungry too!!!
Sit at the bar…had a bit of Déjà vu from back when it was the old Hooter’s…probably sat in the same spot…LOL. Got a sweet tea as the beer taps were still in the process of being charged up and ordered the Half a Chicken Plate (wing, breast, thigh, and leg) along with cole slaw and beans as the sides. While I was waiting on food the beer taps got charged and I was honored to enjoy the FIRST tapped beer from Champy’s in Murfreesboro…Steel Barrel Brewing Company Americana (Pale Ale)!!! They have several taps available along with what looks like a large selection of US and Imports.
Now this chicken is no scrawny piece of yard bird…this is some fat and plump chicken perfectly cooked, moist, and exceptionally tender. Now I’ve never had “Grannies Homemade Fried Chicken”, but if I had I imagine it would taste like this. The sides were good but I have to say the sample of the potato salad with the “special seasoning”…DELICIOUS!
While at the bar I had the extreme pleasure to meet Seth & Chrissy Champy and got to chat with Chrissy for a bit, plus she kept trying to feed me…LOL. She got me to try the Hot Tamales (I’m a coward when anything says “HOT”) and they were delicious. Not a lot of spice, but rich in flavor….highly recommend it on a cracker with some slaw. If you are a chicken tender fan…I saw an order of them and they are gigantic.
What made the lunch experience really great was all the attention from the lovely ladies there…it was rough but I pushed through the pain. They took great care of me and were extremely friendly.
Welcome to Murfreesboro Champy’s…looking forward to bringing family and...
Read moreNot impressible first of all it was not busy whatsoever there may have been 2 cars in the parking lot yet it took about half an hour to get our meal there were people that came in after us that got their meal before we did. I ordered the chicken livers Before I even ordered them I specifically said to the waitress that I cannot eat them if they're hard, now anyone that eats chicken livers knows that when they are hard they are absolutely horrible And the server said oh no they're really really good everybody orders them. Because it was taking so long for us to get our food The waitress did bring us a plate of the hot tamales because our food was taking so long and that was a nice gesture I have to admit but when the chicken livers came out they were so incredibly hard that I could not even eat them. the waitress of course took them back and asked me if I wanted her to have some more cooked I really did want to taste how they tasted so I told her OK. When she bought the 2nd batch of chicken livers out you could clearly see that there was a difference in them and they were not fried hard but it was about half of the amount that was on my 1st plate. Again I question the waitress about it and she said the first batch look like it's more because the 1st ones were put on top of bread but I told her, that the 2nd ones were put on bread too and it was clearly a difference in the amount that I received yet still paid the same price. My niece and I just randomly pick this place to eat because we were tired of eating at the same old places but I don't think that this will be a place that I would frequent again Which is sad because the atmosphere seems to be...
Read moreNot my mothers southern cooking. I was born and raised in Arkansas, so I know a little something on southern cooking. I was excited when my wife recommended this place for our Friday lunch date. Parking is open and it wasn’t that busy for a a Friday noon day. We ordered the Fried Jalapeños. They were okay, but nothing to write home about. I would recommend seasoning them after they come out the Fryers. They were bland. I would also create a dipping sauce for them, the ranch was horrid. My wife ordered the wings and said they were amazing. I then had the Mississippi Delta Catfish plate and the finish was nice and hot, but I recommend you season your milk/flower that you cook your fish in. It just tastes like water and didn’t necessarily have a taste. Over season that mill and I guarantee it elevates the fish and chicken. The tarter sauce was churched up mayonnaise and did not even go for seconds after the initial tasting. The hush puppies were good. Hard exterior yet soft. They were amazing. The fries were above average. Their version of Mac and cheeses was horrible. No seasoning, and bland. Where’s the love, lol? My wife had the two piece dark meet plate with fries and potato salad for her sides. The same review of the fries stand here. She also states the potato salad was good. Overall this place has a good base that can be something amazing. If you’re not a cook, you won’t notice the slight inadequacies of some of the dishes, but they do have some all stars on the menu. I...
