Want to make me mad? Tell me that there are no free refills on my soda. Are you kidding me?!?! Where on Earth are there no free refills on soda?
Want to make me furious? Charge me $3 for the tiny bottle of soda with no refills that is $1 at a gas station and $.29 at the grocery store. Am I expected to spend $12-18 on soda?!?!
Evidently I am. This restaurant expects you to pay $16 for plain old pasta noodles and sauce! To add any type of meat begins at a $6 upcharge. You'd think at that price the preparation and presentation would be amazing. Not the case. I looked around at all the tables to see plain bowls of noodles with sauce stirred in. My grandmother made pasta night more elegant. Im not sure where the pictures of food on their website came from, but I didnt see one plate on one table that looked even close.
As you read this, perhaps you are questioning if the prices reflect the amazing atmosphere? Negative. There I sat in my generic 80's oak restaurant chair with my paper tablecloth, looking at an almost totally undecorated, boring strip mall restaurant atmosphere, reading a menu full of extravagant linen tablecloth prices. You didnt miss the part where I mentioned the paper tablecloth, a la cheap franchise chains, did you? I'll say it again. Paper. Tablecloth.
Service. Maybe just maybe, they were asking me to pay for the intimate, family owned and operated, personalized service. Nope. We were ready to order long before our waitress came to ask what we'd like to order. She also never checked on us to see if we had any needs - not once. We felt blatantly ignored the whole time.
So the food? Were their extravagant prices a direct reflection of the amazing food? Notsomuch. The food was average at best.
What a terrible night. We went far out of our way to eat at a small, family owned and operated restaurant. Our money would have been better spent on Olive Garden, which I regularly call the McDonald's of Italian food.
As I read what I've written above, I realize that I may just sound cheap. Please know that I enjoy fine dining multiple times per week and spend $2-300 on a nice dinner for my fiancee at Eddie V's, Capital Grille, and such regularly. These places offer amazing atmosphere, service, and food for the money though.
This place was a HUGE disappointment.

Read moreWhile I have the utmost respect for small businesses and it actually pained me to leave this review, I had one of the worst dining experiences, even compared to a low- budget chain restaurant at Buon Cibo. The first thing i noticed is that the food is priced as an elite level restaurant while sitting at a table with paper table cloths. At this point, I assumed this would simply be the most amazing meal I’ve ever had and would be prepared with the freshest ingredients and robust flavors. For example, a bowl of spaghetti, yes regular spaghetti, is approximately $17.99 and that doesn’t include meatballs. If you want one singular meatball, it adds 6-8$ to the price. We looked around to see what the other dishes looked like, nothing looked like a presentation that even appeared appetizing let alone worth $17.99 of noodles. We opted for pizza, thinking maybe, their pizza is outstanding. It had absolutely no flavor and a poorly made crust with an odd taste. I could have made a better pizza at my home with ingredients from a chain grocery store. Regarding the service, I couldn’t figure out how they have such wonderful online reviews until I realized everyone in the restaurant are friends with the staff and owners and only give reviews and support this establishment because they like each other. The server ignored us the entire time. She never asked how our meal was. She didn’t even bring us plates until three minutes after she delivered our meal because she was hugging and talking to another table who was leaving. I would have really appreciated red pepper flakes or Parmesan cheese to make my meal at least taste like something. Getting our check was arduous and she could have cared less how our experience was as she was rushing to clean. I will never get back the money I spent for absolutely nothing except...
Read moreABOVE AND BEYOND! I absolutely love this place. I was craving some good Italian food and was doing my research on every Italian restaurant Pittsburgh has to offer. I was discouraged at first until I found this restaurant. When I arrived, they were very busy and the owner told me he would have me a table in 30 minutes. I came back in 20 minutes and they had my table ready and reserved with no reservation. I felt underdressed when I first realized the atmosphere, but they made me feel comfortable and still treated me upscale. My server was the manager, Roberto, and he was AMAZING! So easy to talk to and amazing customer service! He made my experience amazing before I even got my food! Then when I received my order, omg I almost fell out of my chair it was so good. Their sauce is by far the best I’ve ever had. I got the gnocchi (so soft & sooo good) with a meatball, a very fresh tasty salad, a crab cake which may have been the best crab cake I ever had as well, and risotto. And don’t get me started on their BREAD! Everything was amazing! If I could give this place extra stars I would. Everything gets 5 stars! The restaurant, the customer service, the atmosphere, and of course the food! I will definitely be stopping back through my next visit to Pittsburgh. Thank you Buon Cibo Grill for an amazing, well rounded dining experience! I’m so glad I found...
