I was dinning with a party of ten. We had reservations and were able to be seated a couple minutes after walking in. A member of our party had celiac and the restaurant was able to accommodate with gluten free options (something we had asked about prior to reserving a table). The waitress was decently attentive, but only asked one side of the table about allergies. I assumed she just figured that the older guests who were clearly parents to our college-aged selves were going to tell of our allergies. They did not. We ordered two cheeses for the table and they came around ten minutes later. They served gluten free bread, but also said that they had very limited and only enough to serve about two or three people. This was a problem because with celiac anything that's has gluten can not be in the pot without cross contaminating it. So, anyone who wanted glutenous food had to put the cheese on their plate and dip with that. Additionally, I had both the GF and regular bread. The GF bread was average which is completely understandable, but the regular bread was not very tasty. The texture was absolutely awful. It was dry and stale. After the cheese, our salads were served. I have a pine-nut allergy, nothing deadly, but I do get sick for a couple hours and have long lasting hives. So, I ordered the California, which was supposed to come with candied pecans and no where on the menu did it mention pine-nuts. Well, it did have at least a little bit of a pine-nut because as I am writing this review about 17 hours laters I still have hives and am recovering from the nausea I experienced last night. I am completely aware that I should have been more careful and told the waiter about my allergy, despite her not asking, but I was not really expecting there to be a different kind of nut not mentioned on the menu description present in my salad. What really had me aggravated is that when I first got the tingly swelling lips and scratchy tongue I asked the waiter if there was pine-nuts in the salad and she rudely said "well, if you're allergic you should've told me." I have confirmed with the others who heard her at my table that yes, she did say it with an attitude in her voice. Yes, she might have been partially right, but why on earth would she say that to someone that is starting to have an allergic reaction. Maybe offer to help or see what needs to be done? At this point I had to go back to my house and take Benadryl to calm my reaction and rest. The rest of my party finished their meal after about two and a half hours. Several of them have told me that the dessert was amazing, but the main entree was not good. They said that the meat was flavorless and not worth the money. I have eaten at other Melting Pot locations and can confirm that the main entree fondue is not very good. I can also say that no other location has given me an allergic reaction despite not knowing I have an allergy. Also there are many walls in the restaurant, almost like a maze, but the noise still travels. You can not hear past two people. To summarize taking off 1 star for the pine-nut contamination. Minus another star for the waiter not asking. Plus one star for having good GF options. Minus 2 for the waiters comment and attitude. Minus one for the taste of the bread and main entree. Plus one for...
Read moreRosey was our server toward the end of January and she was AMAZING. I have literally never had service ANYWHERE this good. She was polite, friendly, and jubilant. She is 100% the Leslie Knope (for any Parks & Rec fans) of that place. Her enthusiasm for giving us the best experience was tangible and carried over into everything she did. She gave us excellent recommendations, knew the menu inside-out and backwards, and was incredibly attentive.
Eating at The Melting Pot is a LOT of food, and while the experience does take some time (I would plan on devoting at least 2-2 1/2 hours at minimum) it is SO worth it. Rosey made sure everything was spaced really well and at the end of the meal I didn't feel sick from having eaten too much because she made sure we did not feel rushed through it. She even brought us extras of things we liked and staged a cute s'mores campfire moment for our flambe-style chocolate fondue.
Rosey wasn't the only amazing person there, although we didn't get everyone's names. The bartender made an adorable Mai Tai (she put a mint sprig in a cinnamon stick to create a palm tree for my friend, and while this seems like a small detail, for a mixed drink to still get that level of care and attention says something about the mentality the staff here has regarding service). Another team member (we were there late that night) was cleaning a nearby booth, and it was the most important thing I saw that night. She was on her hands and knees with an industry-standard cleaner (I have a sibling in the industry who uses the same products), a clean rag, and was using her phone's flash light to make sure she could see clearly in the ambient lighting. I watched over the course of maybe five minutes as she cleaned, spot checked, cleaned again, and triple-checked her work, including wiping a very tough-to-clean spot a second time. Why does this matter to you, and why is it so important? The diligence, attention to detail, and thorough, earnest effort being applied to a place a customer would rarely (if ever) see - the floor under their table - was proof that every aspect of the experience is treated with care. For that alone, I will be loyal to this location - but her work ethic combined with the incredible service and the deliciousness of the food (seriously, it was so good, worth every penny) made this not just a meal but an experience.
I will be planning another trip to Myrtle Beach again soon, and will 100% be planning on coming back to see Rosey and her team at The Melting Pot. Rosey & Co, if y'all are reading this, please know you guys are amazing! Keep up the good work and I hope you all get ginormous...
Read moreI had a particularly bad experience last week, on my last night during my vacation. This location is usually pretty good, so don't take this as for what happens every time. We had reserved a table weeks in advance, and we showed up, and they put us in the booth next to the door. Literally you step in the door and look to the left, and five feet over there is the booth, with absolutely no ambiance because the blinds were open. We then requested to be moved because we did not feel that the booth was worth putting in a reservation weeks in advance for. Then, the manager lies to us and tells us our booths are selected when we make reservations, which makes no sense because what if the people before us at our table hadn't left? He finally caved and re-sat us, this time actually inside the seating area with some ambiance. The waitress came, and we ordered drinks. We tried to order what we have been for the past 8 years, with my kids getting kids portions with us paying extra to get extra kids chocolate and cheese. This did not sit well with our waitress, who denied that they ever did that even though we've been doing that for years from this restaurant. She just kept saying she had never heard of that even though she's worked there for year's. She then went to the same manager who had previously had an altercation with us, and she came back and said that because one of my sons was 14, we couldn't get him a kids portion. And thus, the balance of extra cheese and chocolate, portion sizes, and price, was thrown off like crazy. It was a lame excuse from a waitress that was trying to act like she wasn't wrong. We have been doing that since when my son passed twelve (when it says the max age is for kids), and it's never been a problem. It was terrible, and it ended up with us getting less cheese, chocolate, and the price went up 70 bucks. Later that night when it came to the check, our waitress pulled up the wrong check for our table and the table across from us, and later we had to straighten that out. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else out there, and we will be back next year, because as I said earlier, this hasn't...
