This is absolutely my most favorite sushi place on the planet. Everybody there is so friendly. It’s like the cheers for Japanese restaurants. Everyday I expect Norm to walk in. My pictures will show a half eaten plate ——I’m so sorry I couldn’t wait. I usually get sushi, but tonight I walked in and saw my friend Gregg eating the steak and I knew tonight “THE MAMA” was on point so I ordered a steak. I also got potatoes, a side ginger salad and I couldn’t help but add some miso soup. They really have done a lot to change this place and make it way better than it has been in the past. I would highly recommend stopping in and asking for Janice who is one of the owners, Amy, who is an amazing bartender, Rose 🌹who can 🎤 sing/dance 💃🏼do all things. Oh, and then there’s the illustrious TU or as locals all know him as “TU Jovi!” Just ask him to sing, and he’s like a walking jukebox. He will sing like he means it to! He likes to sing Bon Jovi, but that’s not the only thing in his repertoire.
Anyways, wouldn’t you like to get away…… Go to Sugami because they’re open till midnight when everything else in Myrtle Beach is closed. What the heck Myrtle Beach. Seriously? If you don’t want to make money … I don’t know. Stop blaming it on Covid or the fact that nobody wants to work. People want to work. I know. I want to work. Just stay open an extra hour or two. And smile when people come into the restaurant… Don’t give bad body language that makes me feel like the place is run by Karen’s….. sorry Mom. Yes my mom’s name is Karen. Anyhow.…… Thanks for playing. Ding! Yup that will help. -The...
Read moreOur 10th anniversary brought us to Myrtle Beach to celebrate, and this was the place we chose at random for our first night's dinner. We cruised down the strip and past all the buffets and pancake houses waiting for something to jump out at us. I wanted sushi and thought the sign and building looked sincere. Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed and asked if we wanted to have hibachi or regular seating. We wanted sushi seating, and our hostess/waitress smiled and gestured toward the main seating area, where we selected our table.
She gave us menus, sushi forms, and drink menus and asked what we would like to drink. Feeling fancy, we ordered off the vodka-heavy special drinks menu, a Salty Serpent (Ruby red grapefruit vodka, club soda, salt rim) and a lime version of a Moscow Mule with lime vodka that tasted like a green Lifesaver and spicy ginger beer. Both were strong and odd.
We ordered sashimi and sushi rolls, and while our order took some time to prepare, you could see the effort in the artistic construction. The baby octopus was served in carved cucumber cups and marinated in a hoisin-type sauce that had a distinct cocoa taste. It was unique and very flavorful. I noticed the same flavor in the sauce on the eel roll. All of the ingredients were so fresh and skillfully prepared, and the service delightful. Price is as to be expected for the area, and typical for good sushi. We would definitely eat sushi here again, and there's a $5 coupon in the Myrtle Beach Coupon Book, so what have you...
Read moreIt was very slow the minute we walked in. Another waitress had to take our drink orders and we never got our waters - we had to ask 3 times before we finally got just one. The waitress wasn’t busy either, she was standing around chatting. We ordered about $55 worth of sushi to start out, and the sushi actually came long after we had finished our entrees. We overheard another waitress tell her table that they were making the hibachi people’s sushi first, so we just had to wait even though we ordered before them. We never had anyone check back on our food, it was like the waitress didn’t want to come to our table because she knew we were waiting on the sushi. Once we got the check, she informed us that she autograted us 18%, which is fine and I understand that, but the 6th member of our party was a 1-yr old who didn’t eat except what we brought him, and on the recipt, she just but an alcoholic beverage in “seat 6” to show there were 6 people. Actually it saved us money in the long run, because we usually tip 20-25%, but it was frustrating that they used a 1 yr old to justify that. Plus the fact that she obviously ignored us and never got us waters or refills probably knowing she would get 18% anyway. The food was excellent, but the service and how things were handled like our appetizer showing up after meals were completed...
