I grew up in Narragansett and was excited to try this new Venue. Disappointed from the start. Wasn’t able to park in the lot. Valet option wasn’t available since we weren’t sure we would eat there and just wanted to look. Truly not sure why they have valet parking. We decided to try it. 2 Ramen dishes, 2 sodas and basic nachos cost $60. Definitely overpriced. My Ramen required extra was mushrooms which were excessively salty they would have been delicious if spiced correctly. Ramen was ok. Nachos were soft with processed cheese would not get them again. Soft drinks were free refillable. However when I tried to refill it came out water. The front hostess did apologize and notified someone who seemed to be the manager who also apologized and said they would fix it but we were on our way out and didn’t want to wait. It would have been a nice gesture to refund the purchase. When we first went in the hostess did explain the basic principles of how to order. First order was a tad confusing but fairly user friendly however no one mentioned how to get the cups for drinks. When I asked they were courteous and friendly in explaining that each vender has cups in front of their station. My first thought was how easy it would be to get free drinks if someone were so inclined. When I went to pick up my order I also thought it would be very easy to grab and dash with someone else’s order there seems to be no security at all. Since this is a popular college town I expect they may have to tighten things up eventually. We didn’t have an alcoholic drink, my guess is this would be a fun place for a group of friends to have a few drinks and a snack. For me, I doubt I’ll be back mediocre food and high prices I’ll go somewhere else and enjoy better...
Read moreCame on a very busy night where the place was packed wall-to-wall. Crowd appeared to be mostly out-of-own types, and skewing towards mid-20s. I had heard the build-up for this place for the past year or more, and was intrigued by the concept... unfortunately, what could have been a casual place for many different independent food vendors to setup small food businesses has been crafted into one of the ugliest mish-mash of food ideas run under a single management umbrella. The integration of ordering through large tablets in front of each food stall discourages interactions with the cooks working directly in front of your face. The branding and signage inside looks like someone took free GIF logos from a Google search and slapped them everywhere. The outdoor sign announcing "BOON STREET MARKET" from 200 feet away is totally unnecessary and extremely ugly, and the TV screens in every direction playing Red Sox baseball assault the eyes. Loud music on top of the sports makes it uncomfortable to be inside. Essentially everything inside could be done with much less emphasis on "looking hip and funky" to enjoy the food or figure out where to go inside. Cut the branding and I think this place might survive long-term as long as the food quality is great.
[On a side note, raw oysters should be shucked to order and stored in cold salt water... I saw an entire display of unsold oysters practically spoiling under lights.]
I'm sad this was how this "food hall" concept played out, and I don't plan on returning. If they had built 8 "workspaces" and let small businesses fill them with different ethnic cuisines, I would imagine this a viable long term choice for eating in the...
Read moreWhat a great idea & use of the old train station. The building is absolutely gorgeous & it was a lively festive crowd, with good energy. The food hall concept, is unique for south county & I hope its successful, especially since its evident they spent a lot of money bringing this to fruition. The outside seating areas are all wonderful and relaxing. The drinks were okay, my "summer crush", was very strong & good, but I didn't reorder it, tried their Negroni, again strong & good. The ladies in our group had the "blueberry yum yum" & they both commented that it was overly sweet. Now for the food we ordered: the ribs, the wings & the chicken tenders....these were all good, but all covered in the same, way too sweet bbq sauce. As a group, we appreciate dry rubbed, North Carolina vinegar base lightly sauced bbq, so this was all in the opposite direction for us. The waffle fries were a small portion of average waffle fries. We also had two sandwiches ( the cuban & fried chicken) & the pork & scallion dumplings. The dumplings were good, nothing remarkable, the sandwiches were better. One very odd issue w the cuban: I didn't see a hot press machine so I asked if the sandwich is pre-made of fresh pressed & she said everything is made to order & yes, the sandwich is fresh pressed. I didn't see it being made, but watched her put a sandwich down on the counter & read tag & saw that it was mine and immediately felt that it was room temperature!! This was absolutely not fresh hot pressed, however it tasted good, see pic & notice the cheese wasn't even melted. Bottom line here is, you'll pay top dollar for average food & drink, for me it...
