As a local, I find it difficult and burdensome to go out to eat in Narragansett during the summer. The tourism is great for our town, and for my business but not so great to relax and unwind with a nice dinner. The Blessing of the Fleet road race and festival weekend is so much fun and the kids love it so while they volunteered at the race we decided to go out to eat right in the heart of the pier. From Boon street you can see and do a little of everything. The Bike Stop cafe is sweet and has a familiar feel, even if you’re new to it. The giant stone pizza oven sits overlooking a packed but roomy bar area with high tops and low tops tables. The bartender served as a waiter and was very friendly and well versed in the offerings. I had veggie pad Thai (was tempted to add chicken or shrimp) and my friend had lobster Mac and cheese. We were both very happy with our choices and impressed with the serving size. We took some home in To go boxes. The price was way reasonable, and I can tell by the staff that the owner treats her employees well and cares about sustainability and local businesses. We walked to the center of town to cheer on the runners and the walk felt easier and I think I should like to walk around this area of town more going forward. It was a great visit with lots of people, smiles all around and a general feeling of satisfaction in the air. As a local I feel proud for what this town has to offer and I love that the pier is coming back to life. The Bike Stop is a must, if not for the food, or for the service then for a glimpse into what our little oasis...
Read moreVisited this place around 6pm on a Saturday. It was busy but nothing over the top. We were greeted promptly and given the option of waiting for a table in the front section or we could head to the back room and have a drink while we waited, or we could eat back there. Ok no problem The back room was dark and the decor consisted of random bikes hanging from the walls and ceiling. The coolest thing in the room was the giant rock pizza oven. After waiting about 10 minutes we were finally acknowledged by the lone waitress back there and brought menus. Ordered 2 different kinds of beers, 1 was out of stock. By the time she came back out with the drinks, we had decided on what kind of pizza we wanted and a small appetizer. App came out in a few minutes (chips and salsa) so we talked, snacked on those and sipped our drinks....for an hour...without the waitress bringing our pizza or asking if we wanted another drink. As I was about to get up and leave, the waitress came over, apologized for the wait, and appeared shortly after with our pizza. Pizza itself wasn't bad, but it was also room temperature, so I'm assuming it was sitting on one of the trays next to the oven for a while before it made it's way to our table. The only highlight of the night was making jokes about the hipster college kids and the trust fund Trevors...
Read moreGood atmosphere. Get a decent (normal) server and all is golden with the experience. Conversely, it can go the other way, which happened the other night. Pizza-wise: nice crust but okay (sweet-ish) sauce, skimpy on toppings (even when you order extra mushrooms for example) and barely any cheese so a few areas of dry dough staring up at you. Wish I took a pic. Also, post a sign at the entry to the "other area" where there are musicians (this night was a fairly meek looking acoustic guitarist) and high top tables - essentially more of the bar area. Had 10 & 14 yr. olds with us but were asked to leave due to "the language the artists sometimes use on the mic". 21 and up only. No biggie, but a simple sign...
