I went to Crazy Burger with my teen daughter and husband for lunch on Memorial day. We were seated about 1:30 on the patio. The patio is an odd atmosphere. While I did appreciate the collection of paintings that lined the walls, it didn't give the beachy diner feel I expected from a Narragansett hot spot.
After about 10-15 minutes of waiting, someone took our order. We were starving and there are few spots for a quick, casual lunch in the area, so we waited. We received the waters and juice quickly. My daughter's soda was not delivered. The server never came back to our table until our food was delivered, 40 minutes after our drinks were served. We mentioned the missing soft drink and asked for ketchup. They were promptly brought to the table.
The food was bland, but we were too hungry to care. My daughter's sprite had no syrup and was just soda water. The waitress never checked on us, or appeared on the patio until we were finished, so we could not remedy the drink issue. The cinnamon roll was good, but clearly not made on site or fresh that day due to how quickly it dried out. The home fries were perfectly adequate and my daughter said the fries were good. I like that the juice was seemingly made in house with fresh fruit.
My husband and I ordered egg burritos and they were nearly tasteless. If it hadn't been for the salsa, there wouldn't have been any flavor at all. My daughter's burger was so salty she didn't finish it and disliked the bun because despite our request not to be, it was grilled with mayo and not butter. The server said it had to be mayo due to the vegan grill and not using butter, but that feels like a poor excuse for not wanting to modify it for my daughter's request. Sadly, we waited so long to order and were so hungry, reviewing the menu for a better option was not considered.
There were other tables on the patio being served by the same woman as us, as well as another woman. There was a clear difference in the happiness of the guests between the servers. Our server was mostly absent and did not do anything to alleviate the stress of an hour wait for food. One of her tables left after an hour of waiting and the other table, like us, went to their car for snacks to eat while waiting for their food. The other server's tables were treated to pleasant chatter and reassurances that the food would be coming soon. While their wait was not any less than ours, a server cannot control the speed of the kitchen, a server can do so much to make guests feel welcomed. Our server clearly did not care about that part of her job.
I was so disappointed, because I've heard rave reviews of Crazy Burger for years. In the past, when driving by, a line was out the door and seemingly a forever wait for takeout. I am aware that we were where there on the first weekend of Summer, but that doesn't account for poor server attitude. I can excuse the wait from the kitchen if they were ill-prepared for such a busy weekend. A server not caring about her tables will happen whether she is busy or slow. We will never go back. And it makes me sad to say I would rather frequent a chain fast food place than this...
Read moreHorrible waitresses and staff. This restaurant got too comfortable because they've been on a decline for a while now. Waitress spilled a milk shake all over my friend and the table (keep in mind how expensive they are) and didn't offer to refund the shake OR EVEN FILL IT BACK UP. At least 1/3 of the milkshake was spilled by this clumsy oaf. We both ordered burgers. She orders hers well done, I ordered mine medium rare. Not only were both of our burgers extremely undercooked, mine was raw. Her burger was red, last time I checked well done meant fully brown, maybe a LITTLE pink. Raw, cold ground beef in the middle. I felt sick about 30 minutes after eating only half of the burger. Then three days of vomiting and diarrhea ensued. Prices are WAY too high for the terrible service and clumsily cooked food. The burger I ordered was the "Loco Burger" which is in a tortilla cut in half by the kitchen (so how they missed the burger being completely raw is beyond me). The women's room also stank. Do not come here unless you want to spend an outrageous amount of money on sub par food and terrible waitstaff. Silverware was dirty, and glasses looked as if they weren't wiped down before being thrown in the dishwasher. Watch out for lip imprints on your silverware and glasses, because that means they were NOT CLEANED PROPERLY. Being "busy" (they weren't even that busy) is NO excuse. We couldn't even ask the waitress for our meals to be cooked more or a shake because she SPED OFF EVERYTIME. By the time we were about to leave, I had enough of not only the poor food, but terrible waitresses, so I just left a kind note on a recipt, just to not cause a ruckus and disturb the other customers. This is coming from someone who also works in the restaurant industry, and at a VERY busy and popular one, so beware. The restaurant I cook for would have not only remade the burgers, but refunded them as well, because even though there is a disclaimer on the menu (both at Crazy Burger and where I work) serving someone a RAW burger that will make them SICK is...
Read moreOk. To say I like Crazy Burger is not simply good enough. Their is a reason this place is one of my faves & I find myself here weekly.
The name says everything, yet not nearly enough about South County's finest. Yes, it has burgers, but it also does breakfast. The best is that you can get a burger for breakfast if you so desire. That's right, burger for breakfast! Why not?
Of course, they've got all the typical & some not so typical day starter options, but occasionally I get hankering for their delicious burgers in the AM & would prefer to not have to wait unit lunch or dinner to satisfy the urge.
I could simply go on about all the many cool & creative dishes they have, but burgers are a great introduction to what Crazy Burger has to offer. Of course, if you find yourself here on Sunday, then maybe the prime rib is your calling. That's right, prime rib. Sunday is prime rib day. That is... they have the typical full menu & assortment of daily specials plus their own prime rib.
These folks have been a staple among the college students, surfers, tourists, & general Southies (South County) for nearly twenty years & you don't need a foodie like Guy Fiere to sell you in this place, cause this establishment does it all on it's own.
Patron's should know that Crazy Burger does not actively have a liquor license, but don't let that scare you. You can enjoy your favorite brewski with that burger or Chardonnay with that fish dish. In true RI tradition, Crazy Burger is BYOB. With Pier Liquors only a couple blocks away, you can be sure that the ideal meal paring will not be squashed by simply what the restaurant has on tap.
You should know, that my favorite burger is the Fireworks Burger. As many who have tried it, this burger is the bomb, but I like to mix things up by dropping this one in the flour tortilla. A Crazy Burger novice may wish to start here.
Regardless of your burger preference, be sure to make your way to Crazy Burger. And when you do... tell them...
