What a joke, if a restaurant deserves to not re-open after Covid-19 it's Shorty's, it was never very impressive to me to begin with. If you want better Mexican you should hit La Carretta or Margaritas first. The restaurant was always meh, mediocre food, mediocre waiters but their bar was usually pretty good. So tonight I wanted to just get the family some dinner but the wife wanted fish tacos for Mother's day. I set up my order at the 99 for the rest of us to be picked up at 5:15. At 3:47 we called in an order to be picked up at 5:30(giving them 1 hour and 43 minutes to prepare an order of fish tacos. I picked my order at the 99 (they were exactly 2 minutes late) I arrived at Shorty's at 521 so I will eat that 9 minutes of my other entrees getting cold. I saw little to no activity in or out of the restaurant. I called at 538 to check on my order at which I was told it would be another 5 minutes (already 13 minutes late (food getting colder) after watching the same girl walk back and forth until 550 I finally got heated and told her it was already 20 minutes late. At 601 I was finally handed my order (31 minutes late other food lukewarm at best) I told her to reverse the charge on my card to which she replies " let me get a manager out here" OH YEAH SO MY WIFE'S FOOD CAN BE COLD TOO?? Again Shorty's would be a restaurant that probably doesn't deserve to survive the shutdown. If they got the payroll protection loan I hope they have to pay it back. -Update- the manager called me back and reversed the charge to my card and offered a gift card. He was very pleasant and personable. He explained that they just reopened for takeout. All in all I found the overall movement of the staff to be completely without hustle. They better get their act together or they won't...

The food was awful. To start off, I hate the idea that this is "Americanized Mexican food." Calling that is a disservice to Americans and even though it is a burrito, this was not Mexican food.
To start off, I was brought chips and salsa. The chips couldn't have been more store bought than these were. I feel like they shopped at dollar general for these chips. Please note the chips were the high note of the food.
The salsa was at best del monte diced tomatoes with some leafy green in there. I stopped after my third chip.
Then I was brought the Banderas which is a steak burrito with cheese guac, salsa verde, pepper jack cheese, etc. Yum right? I made it two bites and I couldn't do it. I couldn't spend a meal trying to fish out the steak, which to Shorty's credit is in fact steak, from the carcass of that burrito. If the candy store sweet salsa verde didnt kill this the market basket brand partially melted re-sealable cheese would have. If anything on the inside of the burrito seemed remotely worth it I would have just scrapped it off but by two bites of this thing I knew I was done. The best thing that could be said about their food was that it didn't appear to be rotten.
The fountain Coke was fountain Coke so they have that going for them. If I ever go back, which I wont, I would stick exclusively to the fountain Coke.
Please, please Shorty's stop calling what you...
Read moreI sat at the bar and had TWO Stoly cocktails and a salad. I was charged for THREE Tito's cocktails instead of two Stoly. I am 100% certain the bartender did it on purpose, figuring the old lady (me) wouldn't notice. He and the male manager couldn't figure out how to fix it. Luckily the female bartender stepped in. I am totally convinced that he overcharged me purposely. I will not go back. Too bad, I like their Cobb salad, even with the burnt bacon.
Update: I decided to give it another try today, but only if that male bartender was not there. I sat at the bar, ordered a drink, and the special "refreshing" gazpacho. Worst decision ever. It was supposed to have summer vegetables in it. It had tomatoes (of course), red onions, and some miniscule pieces of avocado. No other veggies. It was so spicy, the only flavors I could taste were sour and salty. I had to flag down the bartender for some chips to cut the heat and had a few more spoonfuls. I was the only one at the bar, but the bartenders just spent their time chatting with each other. I had to flag them down to get my bill. I told her that it was terrible, so spicy that you couldn't taste any flavor. She gave me a blank stare. Never again. No matter what I do I cannot get the awful taste out...
