We originally went to the restaurant in May of last year scoping out potential caterers for our family reunion. After we tried the food we knew Barr’s Music City Soul Food was the one! We utilized Barr’s Music City Soul Food as our primary caterer for our family reunion over Labor Day weekend this year.
The food was absolutely phenomenal. For our Fish Fry, the fish was fried fresh onsite! We paired the fish with spaghetti that was absolutely delicious and French fries which were also fried fresh onsite! They also did our Sunday Lunch where we had Turkey Wings, Turkey Legs, Baked Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Dressing and Greens. Again, EVERYTHING was delicious! The turkey wings were tender. All the food was perfectly seasoned! The Mac and cheese was SO GOOD and i love dressing and theirs was again, absolutely delicious!
Barr’s Music City Soul Food also did all the decor for our reunion. The decor was absolutely beautiful, and fell right in line with our theme. The decor far exceeded our expectations!
Lastly, the customer service was absolutely phenomenal! I was apart of the planning committee for our reunion so I worked very closely with Erica. She truly has a can do attitude and was determined to help us get to the finish line with the vision our family had for our reunion! Her professionalism, patience and kindness is admirable and she is truly a pleasure to do business with! Erica was there each day of our reunion working hard and, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Her team was also amazing! From cooking the food, to serving, to cleaning up, they ran like a well oiled machine! Everything was absolutely seamless! If there were any hiccups or mishaps, no one knew a thing about it because of the level of professionalism carried by the entire team!
I am so glad that we found Barr’s Music City Soul Food and that we were able to utilize them for our reunion in Nashville! If you’re ever in the area, do yourself a favor and go support this amazing Black Owned Business! You will not be...
Read moreI truly struggle with this rating, as I understand this is a mom and pop restaurant owned by a Community Pastor and his wife. Unfortunately, my daughter and I were pretty disappointed in the taste of nearly everything—and it truly pains me to say that. We were visiting from California and asked the locals for a great soul food restaurant and they recommended Barr’s. So my daughter and I proceeded to try a variety of dishes. We both were excited to try the catfish dinner. Unfortunately, the catfish wasn’t cooked long enough. Both of ours were incredibly wet. The flavor was good but I couldn’t get past the wetness to fully appreciate the flavor. My daughter had double fries and I ordered the greens and Mac & cheese. The greens were just ok. The Mac and cheese was flavorful and cheesy but nothing exceptional, if I’m being honest. I also ordered the chicken dinner and the chicken just wasn’t good in my humble opinion. It was a bit dry and lacked flavor throughout. I also ordered the pinto beans, which were good, but after a few bites, they were a bit too salty. The sweet potatoes were tasty, but they were just a little too wet. I also ordered a side of dressing, which is cooked with diced red peppers, which I don’t favor, so I wasn’t very particular about the dish as a whole. If red peppers is your thing, then the dressing might work for you. The cornbread was a bit dry and bland. Lastly, my daughter ordered the banana pudding for dessert while I ordered the peach cobbler. I have to say that those two dishes were the most disappointing. The bread pudding was just ok and peach cobbler wasn’t it at all. Bot the crust and the peaches lacked flavor and just weren’t very palatable. The meal was delivered through UberEats and it was delivered pretty promptly. For everything we paid about $75. If we return to Nashville, we’ll give this place another try, but I think it will be in person dining to see if the experience is any...
Read moreMy partner got barbecue pork ribs w/ 2 sides mashed potatoes & sweet corn which we didn’t know would be $18 and he also got banana pudding which was $4.99. I got baked chicken w/ 2 sides mashed potatoes & gravy and green beans $10.99. We both got some rolls that were probably Hawaiian rolls from Kroger. The person putting our food in the box didn’t ask which type of gravy we wanted and immediately put the white gravy in the mashed potatoes, they did have both white and dark gravy available.
The food here was definitely overpriced and not as good as it’s priced to be. If we knew that the ribs plate would’ve been been $18 then he probably wouldn’t have chosen it. It’s not easy to tell that the ribs would be a separate/specialty price than everything else until you pick your choices and you get rung up then you see the overpriced items on the TV behind the cashier. I think that’s clever how you don’t see the prices until you choose your food. Many people might choose differently knowing how much things are.
He didn’t think the ribs were worth $18 and the sweet corn wasn’t hitting anything. Our mashed potatoes were dry and my green beans could’ve been cooked longer but I just threw some hot sauce on it and ate it. My baked chicken was cooked decently and tasted good but unsure how long it had been sitting there as the top of them were dried out.
We stopped at Kroger near there to buy nilla wafers for his banana pudding.. but he ended up not eating it PERIOD as the banana pudding was watery so we can’t give a correct review for that. It too was overpriced. Needless to say, we will not patronize this establishment again. We love trying all the soul food restaurants across town and we live in Antioch so even though upon entrance, it seemed like a nice place with many options that we enjoy, the food was...
