The atmosphere is really nice with great lighting and comfortable seating. Plenty of room at the bar if you prefer to be closer to the good stuff. The staff is super friendly and attentive. They really know their dishes and do a great job helping you narrow it down if you can’t decide. It’s almost like they have a personal relationship with the dishes, and everyone has their own go-to item.
BREAKFAST: You can’t go wrong with the fluffy and delicious scrambled eggs. The portions are plentiful and they pair well with the coffee. If you prefer something more in the pastry realm, they have standard and chocolate croissants that are sizable and flaky. The first time I bought one, I devoured it on the 10 min walk home, but absolutely came back the second they opened the next day to buy three more.
DINNER: There are so many options, but they are all great. The menu changes periodically, but the items I have really enjoyed are:
Appetizers: Broccolini Toast Smoked Trout Dip Chicken Liver Mouse
Mains: Paprika Chicken - it has such a mysterious, but delicious flavor that will unexpectedly make it your favorite dish. The chicken is juicy, with flavorful potatoes, and perfectly seasoned kale.
Pork Milanese - very close to a schnitzel, with plenty of slaw that is easy to eat because it is not overpowered by that sour taste some places load it up with. The only thing that sets it apart from a schnitzel is that brown butter chili on it that looks almost like a gravy.
Smashburger - definitely one of the top smashburgers in town. If you order this, you have to order what I think are some of the best fries in town. They are shoe-string style, and that is definitely the best style you can get.
Steak Frites - usually something I do not order at a place that does not specialize in steak, but they do a great job. And once again, those shoe-string fries are great.
HAPPY HOUR: Cocktails and oysters are a must.
DESSERT: Absolutely must get that carrot cake. One of the most delicious, moist carrot cakes I have ever had. Comes with a dairy-free, almond cream cheese frosting and these almost candy-like crumbles.
BONUS: They have a few seats outside so I can...
Read moreReally loved the ambiance and food. Unfortunately, the experience that I had came down to "hipster" service. Waited long on food for over 30 min and the bartenders kept talking among themselves I had to ask for tea and ensure it'd be complimentary since I was waiting a long time. They ended up telling me finally that they forgot my order even after the bartender informed me multiple times food was coming, and when the food came ...the food transporter handed off the burger to the bartender when during the transition the burger completely fell apart. Bartender quickly fixed it with his hands and while I'm not a huge germ-a-phobe this was a bit off putting and unsanitary since he was handling my food without having washed his hands and had seen him continue to use his hands to wipe down the counter, process credit transactions, pick up plates etc.
I came in a second time and greatly enjoyed the avocado hummus appetizer. I ordered hot tea too but the mug that was brought was very dirty. Server was able to swap it but nonetheless, the small details count.
Luckily, the servers both did do things to improve the experience such as not charge the burger or replace my mug sooo great recovery there but overall my first time at Cafe Roze left me with a bad taste. I was extremely hesitant about going the second time because of my experience. Even discouraged my friends from going but decided to try again since we were going for drinks. My second time around I was very leery about ordering a full meal. I stuck with appetizers.
Soooo my rating: I love the atmosphere here but due to the bad experience and small details that are overlooked, I have to rate the service low. Atmosphere is great if you like to frequent to social media influencer and hipster...
Read moreI went here for Mother’s Day with my husband and daughter. My husband made a reservation that was booked out two weeks in advance. We were seated at a small table and it was very uncomfortable, but I was willing to make do. Shortly after we were seated, a larger table next to us became available so I asked to be seated there so I could have more elbow room and my daughter could be comfortable. The waitress told me no because all tables were reserved. I said okay, I can understand that! Shortly after that, a group of 3 were seated at the table I inquired about. They asked to be moved to a larger table for comfort. The woman who was sitting next to me at that table told me they were being moved because they requested due to lack of comfort. They were immediately accommodated. I asked the waitress why this happened. I wanted to know why my family and I couldn’t take this table that was once again available so my daughter could be more comfortable. She told me I could not be accommodated because of prior reservations.Within seconds, A woman who appeared to be a manager immediately came over to have us moved. I really appreciate that. My main concern was my daughter. The whole ordeal seemed racist. When white patrons asked to be moved to better seating, there was no hesitation. However, I had to ask twice. We are an African American and Asian couple. The entire ordeal was very insulting. It put a damper on my Mother’s Day lunch. I didn’t appreciate it, it was disrespectful, and racist. I went there for Mother’s Day and it was clear that I’m a Mom because I was seated next to my 7 year old daughter. Please speak to your staff about treating all patrons with the same respect...
