This wasn’t my favorite dining experience. We were a party of two and lunch cost us $75, which is hefty considering what we ordered. Here’s what we ate and drank—hot chocolate, orange juice, a hamburger and the duck confit Benedict.
Hot chocolate—tiny mug, only half full, since the other half was whipped cream, and it tasted like hot milk. Surprising and disappointing. Fresh squeezed orange juice—fine. Definitely fresh squeezed that day (not to order but definitely that morning), but not super sweet. Oranges groves have been hit hard in the last decade or so by various diseases and this isn’t the fault of anyone, especially not restaurants. Burger—asked for medium rare, received medium; very dry and “nothing to come back for” according to my husband. Served on a Brioche bun with fries. Benedict—eggs were cooked perfectly, hollandaise tasted fine and the consistency was fine. The duck was ok, but ultimately the sum of this dish felt like less than its parts. Served on a croissant, which was griddled nicely. Sliced potatoes on the side of my Benedict—just not great. Warm not hot, not crispy, just ok. Everything needed a good pinch of salt, but they have pink Himalayan salt grinders at the tables so that was helpful.
We were seated immediately (the hostess was very friendly and I truly appreciated that) but it took just under 15 minutes for a server to finally connect with us, and then of course the additional wait for the food, about another 10-ish minutes.
It was also quite noisy inside—there’s really nothing to dampen the noise as it’s just a large, open space, and the music was aggressively loud. I found myself shouting to be heard, so that ended up being exhausting by the time we finished. The wait would have been easier to tolerate if we didn’t need to shout across the table.
If you’re neurodivergent and you want to try this place, I recommend sitting outside as it’s a little quieter out there. The lighting is also a bit intense so if you struggle with multiple sensory issues, keep that in mind.
Also—I’m hesitant to mention this as I see others have brought this up and the manager has responded defensively to those comments, but we also had some racist undertones to our service, and I hated that. It’s very hard on us to experience this as a mixed-race couple. It’s shocking how often it happens, but it never stops being disappointing. We’re past the point of feeling humiliated when it happens, but it still leaves you feeling affected by it.
So…I think this restaurant is fairly on par with the typical casual dining experience you can expect in Nashville. If you’re not an overly discerning/sensitive diner and you enjoy a “lively” (noisy) atmosphere, you’ll be fine. There are a lot of options on the menu so it would probably be easy to bring a large group and have everyone find something they’re comfortable trying. Don’t bring your autistic...

We came there on a weekday evening. There was two other tables when we got there. 3 people at the bar. No one outside. Because We wanted to do some shopping for our child, we thought we would just get a quick bite to eat and check out the menu. We had always planned on coming back another time to have a date night because they have a Great menu. Although, considering that they have the word “egg” In their name, you would think it would be mainly a breakfast and/or brunch spot, But I had a friend recommended for dinner, so we decided to try it out. We simply ordered a margarita pizza and a Caesar salad for me and my husband to split. Our daughter ordered grilled chicken and fries. We waited and waited and waited. 40 min later, we were told that our pizza had burned, but they were working on a new one. We got it about 10 minutes after. My daughters grilled chicken was clearly pink. The server asked for us to cut into it because she noticed it also. And I said yes, please cook it up more. Our pizza really did not resemble a margarita pizza. I didn’t really care for the flavor of it, but my husband was fine with it.. What was ridiculous was the Caesar salad. It was about 2 ounces of salad for eight dollars. Not even enough for a small child. She did warn us that it was very small. I just didn’t think it was possible to be that small and charge that amount of money. Romain is extremely cheap. They really need to rethink this one. Also, barely any dressing. My daughters chicken finally came. They brought a new one and the manager said he was comping it, which we appreciated. We ended up just getting her food to go since we had been there for over an hour for such easy food. We ended up Only being able to have 15 minutes to shop since it was a school night and we had been there for about an hour and 10 minutes.
I had previously been a server for over 20 years at a fine dining restaurant, so maybe I have more expectations than others but I definitely think there could be some more work done here to improve what they have. I think this restaurant has a lot of potential. Has great decor and think the outdoor seating will be awesome as it gets cooler. Although, I do think the lighting is way too bright inside. We enjoyed our server as she asked us questions and was engaging. The manager was nice also. Perhaps they were short on a cook that night. We would like to come back for a date night to give it a second chance. I do have more eggspectations for...
Read moreMy first visit was during the week when they opened, and I was greeted by the manager who seated me right away. I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of cheese grits and an orange juice. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked through, but the waffle was a bit too well-done for my liking (next time, I’ll ask for it cooked a little lighter). The grits, though, were delicious – super cheesy and flavorful, though they came out a little cold. I know with the level of service here, I could have easily mentioned it and they would have made it right, but I ended up taking my leftovers home. The next morning, I had the grits for breakfast, and they were even better! So creamy and flavorful.
The manager came over after my meal, and we had a nice conversation. She gave me a card for a return visit to try their signature bread appetizers and mentioned the Wednesday pizza night, which I’m looking forward to attending. My 8-year-old devoured my leftovers (aside from the grits), which is always a good sign!
A few days later, we decided to try carry-out. My son got pancakes and bacon, and I opted for the chicken and potatoes. The carry-out was packed well and just as good as the dine-in experience. Fast forward to Sunday – after church, my son asked if we could go to Eggspectation together, so we did. The service was even better than my first visit! Nothing was cold, everything was fresh, and we started with the gooey goose sweet bread (because why not start with dessert first?). For our main courses, my son had chocolate chip pancakes with marshmallows, and I went with the traditional breakfast – eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. It was spectacular!
We didn’t get the OJ this time (at $6 a pop with no refills, it’s a bit steep for my budget right now), but the soft drinks came with plenty of refills. From now on, this will definitely be our go-to spot for breakfast whenever we’re in the mood. And if you’re looking for great service, ask for Corey. He’s the kind of server who can read the table well and anticipates your needs without you having to ask – always bringing refills, napkins, and ensuring you have everything you need before you even think to request it.
Eggspectation will definitely remain our breakfast spot as long as we’re calling...
