I placed a curbside order over the weekend for one veggie gluten free burger, one chocolate cream cupcake, and one cookies and cream cupcake. The restaurant doesn't have a designated curbside order pickup area/parking spot, so you have to call when you're there and reiterate the make, model, and color of your vehicle. I ate the burger and chocolate cream cupcake the same day, and they were pretty good. The following day, I ate about half of the cookies and cream cupcake before experiencing extreme abdominal cramping to the point where I could hardly move for the remainder of the day. The pain prolonged throughout the entire day even after it caused me to vomit and experience a fever. I confirmed before my purchase that the cupcake contains soy and oats, and I do not have an allergy to any of these things, so I was completely lost on what caused the reaction. Since then, I have been experiencing very bad abdominal pains whenever I eat. A few days later (still experiencing pains whenever I eat anything) I dropped by the restaurant to ask if they are able to provide an ingredient list and possibly grab an early dinner. When I briefly explained to the cashier the situation she quickly said "we don't provide ingredient lists but if you have an allergen we can tell you if it's in it." The issue is they list all allergens on the menu, so I already knew it contained soy and oats which I am not allergic to. I told her that I don't have any allergens, so a list of the ingredients in the cupcake would assist me since I would be able to provide it to my doctor to possibly run a food sensitivity test. She responded "sorry, we don't provide that," and before I could even respond she quickly asked "is there anything else I can help with." I WAS going to order, but the insensitivity to the fact that I went through extreme pain and vomiting after consuming their food made me feel so unsafe ever eating from their establishment again. You would think they would have more compassion for their customers. I previously really enjoyed eating at Sunflower Cafe (their affiliate restaurant), but after this brazen indifference from their staff, I will never return. Again, I understand not wanting to reveal "secret recipes," but wow. I hope this review is able to give a heads up to anyone who suffers from food sensitivities to second guess about eating from...
Read moreSat with this one for a minute, as I have been a coming here with my family for almost a year and I love it. But with everything going on in the world, I felt the need to post this.
Their new manager (a woman with a long blonde ponytail that I’ve seen a couple of times now) is a MGA supporter and was talking on the phone IN the restaurant with someone about how an employee upset her because they were wearing an anti-Nzi shirt. She was doing this in front of people in the restaurant who were just trying to eat peacefully. I asked an employee to speak to a manager and was told she is the new manager. She eventually moved her conversation outside but the next couple to come in was talking about her conversation, so she was still doing it where customers walking in could hear.
I don’t understand why someone with beliefs like that would be hired to manage a spot that is supposed to be a safe place for the people our current president is actively taking rights away from. I will no longer be taking my family here nor will I recommend anyone eat here while people like that are being employed at such a level.
In response to owner: Hello, I appreciate your response. I want to clarify that this woman was NOT on the phone with management. She was clearly on the phone with younger relative in discussion of her political beliefs and distaste with the shirt. She called the person on the phone “baby” and “sweetie” multiple times in a tone that was reminiscent of talking to a child. Unless you or another member of her management is referred to as “baby” by this woman, then what you stated is not true. It would seem she has a habit of saying things she shouldn’t, as my wife was in there a few weeks ago and heard her call the smoothie machine the “R” word, but we let that one slide.
Also, there is no such thing as “neutral” when it comes to stances like the one mentioned in your response. You are either against or you...
Read moreUpdated again. I ordered a focacia bake. Big mistake.
a. It wasn't focacia b. It made me terribly sick c. It didn't even taste good
Editing to update. They have the best vegan and gluten free cupcakes around.
Additionally, they have added a side with meals though it is a limited selection.
I'm raising this from 3 to 4 stars though the non-cupcake foods could still be a bit better.
I'm hoping it gets better than it is now.
In the meantime, we've been here three times. We were so excited when they originally advertised that they would have shepherd's pie since we used to get them at The Family Wash before they closed and we were craving them. We went in excited and even though it was on their menu, they weren't serving them. They said come back later. So we did. And they weren't serving them again. We went another time assuming they'd probably still not be serving them and thinking we'd just try something else and sure enough, no shepherd's pie.
So, beyond that huge disappointment, all they seem to have when we go in is sandwiches. I mean, that's good, but I was hoping for more. The sandwiches we have had have been good if light on the flavor. The portions look small and they come without a side, but we ended up full (that said we've noticed lately that we eat less than we used to).
The bread is pretty good for gluten free. It is unusually dense, but not dry. I had hoped to get some gluten free bread here for an event, but even though all their advertising materials show bread, they don't sell it on it's own (at least last time I checked).
Also, it would be nice to have breakfast options for those of us who don't go there early.
Hopefully things improve over time and I can up my...
