The place looked nice, but that was it. Of course the server who sat us down asked what we wanted to drink, good start. The Jamaica tasted like the premade packets you bought at the market or the amount of sugar that was dumped in it was overboard that you needed to stir to have the Jamaica flavor push to the top. Unfortunately, I do not know if the waitress was new or unaware of the menu, but when she took our orders I ordered the chorizo and eggs and yet she still asked me how I wanted my eggs. I didn't question it so I said "estrellado" knowing it wasn't coming back like that. She never asked what I wanted for my sides and I had to tell her she asked if we wanted anything else. Later I saw on the bill that she was charging me extra for those and pointed out that it was part of the meal you have on the menu. The menu is ridiculous and I mean unnecessary foods. You're a Mexican restaurant with Guatemala plates, great. All this other junk of American comfort has to be taken out. If people want that then go to Denny's or IHOP. Lastly the biggest part that dissatisfied me was the flies. It wasn't just one or two, but several. Constantly swating them away and eyeing your food and drinks. I get it this is nasty city, but other restaurants nearby don't have this same problem. Hate to say this, but I won't be...
Read moreSo usually I take a picture to post along with my review but we got so excited about the food, we dug right in and didn't look back. My son had the pancake breakfast, I had the French toast and my husband had the Chiroy combination (on my suggestion because of another post). I'm so glad he got it!!! Ridiculous! The beans on that plate were too die for. Or should I just say everything on that plate was to die for. I loved my French toast. It was so good and my son loved his pancake breakfast but we both couldn't stop picking food off of daddy's plate! As we were leaving another table was leaving and he said it was his third trip there this week! He had just found it too! He takes a new person each time. We might have to start doing that. I'm glad we live so close! We'll be back!! (Next time I'll take pictures) 😂 Update: STILL GREAT! 2024!!! I still love the French toast. So yummy. And the coffee. Ugh!!! So good with cinnamon already in it. Just a great...
Read moreChiroy's is a hole in the wall type restaurant...not being from NC, I'm not going to lie and say the area wasn't a little sketch, as we pulled up I saw a decent sized group of homeless people congregated outside the small strip mall.
Nevertheless, I'm glad that didn't scare us off because this place was phenomenal!
There's plenty of parking. We pulled up in a boxtruck and were able to find parking quickly, which is always a challenge for us.
Immediately, I knew I wanted to try the Guatemalan breakfast. It did not disappoint. The chorizo and churrasco were flavorful. My youngest daughter ordered a French toast plate, and the portions were good-sized. My oldest wanted the quesabirrias, and she said the flavor was excellent and the tortilla was crispy and not soggy.
Now for 3 people, with 3 decent size plates, coffee, and 2 milkshakes, the bill was $85...so this is not a cheap place but definitely has big enough portions to share. Highly...
