Let me preface this comment by saying that i’ve had several decent experiences eating at this establishment. HOWEVER the last and final time I ate/will eat at Rice n Beans Nazareth was extremely awful due to the fact that I was essentially POISONED due to a lack of employee knowledge/awareness of food allergies. I am severely allergic to Gluten/Wheat Flour and when I called to order my usual burrito bowl I was asked by the person taking my order if I would like to try the “Gluten-Free” burrito bowl tortilla shell. I was very apprehensive about it but since I’ve never had a bad experience up until this point I decided to trust the employee. After waiting over an hour and 15 minutes for my delivery (less than 4 miles from the establishment) I called again before even beginning to eat my meal in order to confirm, again, that the burrito bowl tortilla shell i ordered is in fact gluten free. I was assured yet again by a different employee over the phone that the shell was absolutely gluten free. I then ate most of the mediocre meal and began my drive back to my home in NJ. Approximately 2 hours after I ate this meal from Rice n Beans (without eating anything else during this time period) I began feeling the telltale signs that i’ve ingested a large amount of gluten. I have been diagnosed with Celiac Disease (gluten allergy) for over 19 years and have become extremely in tune with my body and what it feels like to have an allergic reaction. Before I could even make it to my house I was forced to pull over on the side of an extremely busy highway in order to projectile vomit out the driver side door of my car. After this I began rushing towards my house that was still 15 mins away. Before I could even make it home I was again forced to pull over and vomit out of my car. By the time I made it home I was nearly unable to drive due to EXTREME gastrointestinal pain. Once I was in my house I proceeded to vomit again while suffering from the worst diarrhea imaginable. Thankfully my reaction to gluten is not life threatening otherwise I’m sure I would have died because of the severity of my reaction. Since I was certain that Rice n Beans Nazareth was the only thing I had eaten all evening and could be the only possible cause of all this trauma, I decided to call them to try and speak with the manager about what happened. As soon as I asked to speak with a manager the most rude and nasty “lady” (no lady would speak like she did) decided to berate me about why I was calling and denied everything without allowing me to speak with management. Upon hanging up, someone who I assume to be the owner or manager called my cell phone and began cursing me out as soon as I answered, calling me things that I cannot even write in this comment because of the level of vulgarity. The unprofessionalism that exists at this establishment is truly appalling and I felt the need to write this in order to tell anyone with food allergies THAT THIS RESTAURANT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND/COMPREHEND DIETARY RESTRICTIONS AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO BE POISONED. The ignorance and overall lack of respect for their customers is something that everyone should be aware of, and if you end up having problems with the food/ service you received, don’t expect the owner or management/staff to care whatsoever and be prepared for them to curse you out like they did to me. This review is 100% accurate and I did not exaggerate any aspect of my experience; my only motivation for writing this is to protect others like me before someone ends up...
Read moreMy wife and I are big supporters of small local businesses choosing these settings over larger much more bland tasting franchises. Needless to say today was the day by which I announced we were finally going to try this place out. She squeeled with joy. The first thing you notice when approaching this place are the small patio furniture peices directly outside. Cool. This particular day happened to be one of the hottest/humid days of the year. Cool. So we take a seat under an airduct which is obviously dirty and moldy and is circulating this filth around the eatery. After reading the menu I realize this place is to latin american food to what training wheels are to a bicycle.Noticing the secondary dusty box fan in addition to the moldy ac unit wont be cooling my family and I down anytime soon, i ask the server to sit outside with my wife and child. She said it would be fine. After moving our own utensils to the small tables and chair outside I go back in to retrieve drinks, to which I was greeted with, who by my guess was the owner "you sitting outside?...we don't have service outside" which meant, to my best estimate, "we don't want your business" understanding this I immediately left everything where it was, gathered my family and proceeded to the next venue. So I will say this, if you want sub par customer service, people who don't wear gloves or hairnets when they prepare your food, and a comically stereotypical business name to top everything off, come here. But if you want delicious authentic food, prepared by hispanics in a comfortable setting...go to spice...
Read moreI ordered and received 2 Groupon vouchers for $15 worth of food for this restaurant. I stopped in to get a "to go" menu and was given a tiny piece of paper with a website to view the menu. Tonight when we decided to try the food there, I went on the website and we decided what to order. I called the phone number listed and got a message which stated that they were unable to accept the call. I wasn't really sure what that meant, but the website said I could order online, so I did. In the comments section, I wrote "Groupon for $15". I also gave my phone number if there were any questions with my order.
When I went for the food they refused the Groupon voucher because I didn't order on the phone, but ordered online instead.
I spoke to the manager who was very rude and said the voucher said you must order by phone only. The voucher does, in fact, give instructions to order by phone but it does not say that online order would not be accepted.
The food was lousy. The pork was dry, the beef had no taste and the food was cold. I would not recommend...
